Hatch glass trim

Background: Last year I noticed the outside trim on the hatch glass was starting to rust. I removed the spoiler, carefully sanded down all the rust to bare metal, taped everything off, primed and painted. I used some Autozone rattlecan primer and RustTuff flat black paint.

Side Note: I also had a rust spot on my deck lid from where the spoiler rubbed through the paint so I had that "professionally" taken care of. I also had the guy put the spoiler back for me and he used some strip caulk around the pedistal to prevent the damage from re-occuring.

Anyways, I thought I did a pretty good job on the trim, everytime I look at it I pat myself on the back. LOL..... BUT, the other day I noticed that under the spoiler (which goes halfway up the hatch glass, covering half of the trim) all the paint was peeling up and rusting underneath. It looks pretty bad under there on both sides, but looks perfect everywhere else that is exposed. I have too pull the wing back off the really asess the damage but I know I have to repaint the trim. My question is what did I do wrong? what primer/paint should I use to keep this from comming back? I can snap pics but it wont be till this weekend when I get it apart.
