hatch switch -- wont stay open --
Hey, I have a problem with my 92RS hatch switch. I just got a new console came hatch switch.
It works fine. But when the hatch opens up it wont stay open. It closes the hatch. So it just brings it up and down.
Also the switch has 2 wires. But the part in the car has 3 wires. Black, orange and brown.
Black and orange have the power for hatch.
Any ideas?

How are the lift struts for the hatch? If they are weak the hatch won't pop up enough to stay unlatched when the pull down motor moves up.
Orange is power, brown is a ground source which goes to the brake switch(on manual trans cars) and black runs to the back of the car for the release solenoid.

lol if the hatch pops open the pulls back down your hatch struts just arent strong enough so it opens then the motor thinks your trying to close it and pulls it back down.
You can either A) buy new hatch struts (which make a cool sound when theyre new)
or B) play the fun game where you press the button and then run to the back of the car to grab the trunk before your motor pulls it down

Yah I might need to raplace the struts.
But when I open the hatch with the key. The hatch motor brings it up. And stays up.
I try it. Not enough time.

.......and when I cross these two it powers the hatch, but wont stay open. Like I said when I open with key the motor does it work and stays open.
Theres a third wire in there. Cant see it that well but theres 3. Orange and black power it. But brown is left no power.
Is there a different year hatch switch?

The power hatch release and the pull down motor are two separate circuits.
All the power hatch release does it activate a solenoid attached to the latch on the pull down motor and unlatches the hatch. It does nothing more and is not tied into the wiring for the pull down motor.
The pull down motor has a couple of switches. One tells it to go up and down and the other is in the latch which activates the motor when the hatch is opened or closed. With weak hatch struts this will stay closed and the motor will go up ... and then down.
As I stated above, there are three wires for the power hatch release. Orange is power, brown is the ground path which is tied into the emergency brake switch and black goes to the solenoid at the back of the car. The switch should only have two wires going to it.
