headliner progress

Hey guys how does this look so far? The surface is smooth now after a bit of brushing. Its not done yet, just some clean up around the edges. But does it look ok, or does it need to be bright yellow?

Thanks
John

you need to remove all that greyish green soft stuff take it down to the yellow hard stuff.

if the headliner is old enough you could take a rough broom and use it to sweep of the stuff.

Or if not go get a wire brush and just slowly brush it off.
get a decent size bruch so that it dosnt take forever. like 4 inches be 6 inches or bigger.

You have to remove this stuff because if you dont after a while this stuff will seperate from the head liner and then it will droop again. THis way it will never come off...

What kind of glue are you useing by the way? This is very important. cause you dont want to have to redo this ever summer or so.

The basic purpose is you don't want anything loose on the headliner board. The glue needs to bond to something solid for the headliner material to stay put, so be sure to get rid of as much of the green stuff as you can, as well as any loose fiberglass pieces from the board itself.

An orital sander works great....Just use it lightly. Don't press down, just let it skim over the top

Hey thanks guys, i figured out how to get it down to the yellow. I'm going to use contact cement. I think it will work better and fill in any imperfections better than 3M 90. Any thoughts?

You should not use 3M 90 to begin with. Please read the headliner article linked in my sig below.

dap contact cement is best ...

make sure to let it sit a few minutes before you start laying the cloth down.

I have read your article and I appreciate the time you took to compile it. There are many conflicting opinions on what adhesive to use. It seems like people liked the 3M90. Anyway i'm using contact cement, so it doesn't matter. I am using dap contact cement.
