moonroof on camaro?
The other week I was at a junkyard and noticed a moonroof on a camaro. It just popped up, didnt slide open or anything. When did our cars come with moonroofs, cause I have never seen one before and never new it was an option.

I was thinking of putting in Dual sunroofs on my Firebird instead of cutting off the roof for T-Tops I am a little afraid of doing that so I thought the sun roof on each side would be a neat addition and kinda unique.
But everyone has their opinions and I respect them

well that means you would only be out $347 if you went and bought a new firebird. I Just think the hassle you would go through trying to convert a car like this wouldnt be worth it. But if you wanna go for it, why not go all the way and make it a targa top? I always wish our cars came with targas.
Heres a t-top for $750. It is in Virginia, but you get the point. They are out there, just gotta search for them.

My Firebird has one. It never bothered me. I think it would look a little smoother with just the hardtop but it's also nice to have a little sun inside.
I think that T's would look like crap on my car. I don't think the sunroof looks so bad.

Hey man, that firebird looks great. You can;t even tell that it has a moonroof.
As for the guy that wants to do dual moonroofs. Try to photoshop it and see what u think b 4 cutting metal
And since we are all stating our opinions on roof selection, I think there is no better way to go than hardtop all the way. With a nice roll bar inside. ALL buisness

The only way to 'convert' a car hard top car over to a t-top is to cut the entire roof off and weld on a t-top roof. This involves removing the windshield, getting a new headliner and some interior trim, etc. It can be done, but it's not worth the cost of buying a t-top car and transferring everything over IMO.
As for structure, you will have to brace the frame so that it won't bend when there is no roof section.
I’m personally against two sunroofs. For one it would be next to impossible to fit two side by side. Not only that, but you would have to mount them about 4" away from the side of the roof because of the way it's supported. Logistics aside, I think it would look pretty tacky.
Also: consider that the cost of adding sun roof(s) to your car will cost you money, quite a bit if it’s going to be done right. Plenty of people on these boards have picked up sub $500 cars with t's in them.

im here to agree w/ what gummie said. If you want t-tops, go to the yard, and cut at the C-pillars and A-pillars, use the entire t-top roof, and then cut the same on your car, and weld into place. This way, structural integrity isn't going to be "majorly" comprimised.
Targa roof could be done, don't think we've seen it finished on any 3rd gen yet. But doing so, will remove structural integrity, since the t-bar helps give the car some rigidity, so going targa, means making structural improvements. I"d say SFC's should help you out, braces on hte unibody also, and possibly a rollcage, or partial one.

not strictly 3rd gen but My 80' burly came with a factory moonroof that was motorized and would slide back at the press of a button.. I am sure there was an option for moonroofs in the third gens, just one of those very few and far between choosen options.
