Interior plastic painting

OK now i know you have all seen the ricers with the multi colored interior plastics that they have painted and it looked like crap but don't bag on me yet.

When i got this car about 2 weeks ago i decided that everything had to get ripped out of it since the t topps were leaking. It was really bad. The carpet and pass seat were destroyed because of mold and constant water soaking into it.

Since everything was out and i am waiting to find some carpet i started cleaning up the plastic. Most of it was sun faded and there wasn't much i could do. Instead of spending more money and buying new/used plastic online i did some research on plastic paints. I bought some of the paint that was marketed as interior plastic paint/dye and did one little panel. I let it cure and decided to test it. i did the finger nail test and found that it didn't do what it said it would. It came of with just a fingernail scrapping. I also did the flex test and ever so slightly bent the plastic and surprise, surprise, it flaked. CRAP.

so i went to the hardware store to look at what other paints i could get. I found a paint made by KRYLON called FUSHION. It was designed to paint those cheap plastic lawn chairs and tables, mailboxes and the like. So i thought maybe it would work. I painted another panel and did the same tests. IT WORKS AWSOME!!! The only way i got it to peel or crack was with a screw driver and i hope you don't just go around scratching your interior on purpose like i did.

I did the whole cars plastic with the same color...Black ... so no i didn't make it look like a rainbow. I just wanted it to look stock again and it looks sweet. So if you are looking to spruce up your plastic or change the color of it i recomend KRYLON FUSHION, It worked for me.

Sorry so long just wanted to prove that it worked

Hmm. I did try that stuff but didnt have the same experience. I washed, degreesed, scuffed, and washed again. After that was done, i sprayed them with the krylon stuff. It comes off way to easy! I'll have to go out and check tomorrow if its the same deal. Maybe the sun baked it in.

i'll get yall some pics as soon as the wife gets home. and if you buy the paint make sure it says in big letters FUSHION you really can't miss it. The color i used was a semi gloss black. You know how some paint is when they do different colors so i am only vouging for the semi gloss black. All other attempts are at your own risk. Just do a small panel and let it cure for at least 24 hrs. Now i had lots of time and i let it cure the full 7 days like the can said. maybe thats why. Oh yeah and i washed the panels with dish soap and water then as a final prep i used a paint thinner. but whatever you do don't let the thinner sit on the panel to long. Will start doing bad stuff. You know like eat plastic.....eewwwwwww..... not good. So please just a wipe down.
