15th Anniversary Mystery Panel

I havent been able to find any good pics or have been able to figure out what this piece is. Its the the brown/tan piece on the side of the the center counsol by the pedals. It looks like it was stock like something was supposed to be over it. It is metal and is held in by plastic type screw or pushins. The metal seems to match stuff you can see that is under the dash by the fuse panel. Im hoping this is somewhat supposed to be there and its not some shotty repair. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When I drive my leg never touches that area.I think that pad is pointless. If anything they should have a pad for the other leg.For me,my left knee rest against the drivers door armrest handle, starts to feel uncomfrotable(sp) after a while.See if they had more padding on that armrest my knee would feel better lol

The picture above is from my car, and I can tell you that it is VERY noticable, once installed. It sticks out farther than it appears in the picture, and you really do get the benefit of it being there, The out side of my right knee goes right up into it.

But, if you all feel it's pointless, I'm sure you need to try one out first, before doubting its usefullness.

Besides, it's a unique feature of an early 3rd gen WS6 Trans Am.

Leon.

Yes, there were 1500 15th anniv. editions made, 1000 were automatic and the other 500 were manual, They might have been 5 speed but I'm not 100% sure

Is that even when your left foot is on the footrest?

Note to self:- Check left knee position when driving. I've never noticed a problem, maybe my knee isn't on the side of the door handle. People come in different shapes and sizes and drive their cars differently.

i have a stick, so my left leg is extended and on the floor when not clutching. however on longer trips i have been known to to that and it gets uncomfortable fast.

1983 Daytona Replica T/A's and 1984 T/A's came with the leg pad.

The 15th T/A taillight bird is light blue with white accents.

The manual 15th T/A's were 5-speeds.

I have never needed the leg pad in my 84, but my father (he is much taller than me) uses it. I guess its just something for people with longer legs

I think your right. My old '84 had it and my '83 MSE doesn't. I'm 6'7" and my right knee is always there. Gets painfull on long trips. Definately a must have for us tall guys.
