4th gen spoiler questions
i just got a 97 ish TA spoiler to put on my 85 TA. im not sure how to mount it. In the first pic shows one of the two inside "legs" but when the spoiler sits flush, it seems like they come up too short and wont touch the hatch. any1 else have this problem?
My next question is the 2 studs along the side of the spoiler i assume bolt into those 2 little clips along side next to the glass, how exactly do they fit into there? start a nut on that bolt and slide it into the clip somehow?

ok, so i did some searching and apparently i have to lengthen those two middle legs an inch or two. how exactly do i do that? and if any1 has a progress photo of this it would be very helpful.

You have to make fiberglass legs to extend it basically using a foam for a rough shape then wrapping it in fiberglass. If you've never done fiberglass work maybe someone will offer to do it here. Or you should take it to a pro. I've built FG speakerboxes and such but i can't get the legs to turn out right on mine.

ok so let me see if i get this straight. i make the leg out of foam then wrap it in fiberglass. after it hardens do i leave the foam in it or do i take it out? also, would i have to make the leg smaller to compensate for the layers of f.g. that will go around it to fill out the shape?

yeah you leave the foam in. And yeah you'd have to make it smaller depending on how thick you make your FG. Since none of it is flat you shouldnt have a problem with strength since FG is stronger in a curve than flat. I'm suprised alot of the other guys havent jumped in and said anything.....

When I did mine, I used a block of foam, covered it in fiberglass, then smoothed it over with bondo. Sort of.
As far as the arms go...I just removed the studs that stick out. The spoiler is solid enough that it just lays flat against the glass and doesnt move once bolted to the decklid.

omg have fun,
i spend countless hours getting mine perfect but that's just me.....
but my number one thing im going to tell you to make your life much easier is when your ready to mount it,the post are going to look like poop, so line it all up, get it where you want it,
then pull out some bondo and wax paper mix up the bondo slip a big enough size in the shape of your posts on the wax paper, then lift up the wing high enough to get the wax paper under it and lay the wing down wait till it dries and trim and sand as needed and wall-la! flush posts the most flush post you'll ever have!!
