How do Push Button Heater Controls work?

How do Push Button Heater Controls work? I know that it does not use Vacuum servos so does it use Electric servos (or actuators)?

How is the Heater core "door" opened and closed?

Thanks,

It uses electric motors to do everything. If you want to swap this type of controller into your car, you've got to change the entire heater box.

if you are talking about the digital dash assys in the firebirds,it is actually driven by an electric vacuum motor. The selector push buttons open and close the vacuum source to different vacuum actuators in the vents and stuff.Trying to get parts to fix that is going to be difficult in the extreme. You can pretty much count out geting any of it from GM,I tried on my 87 gta quite a while ago when I tried fixing it.

Actually to be more clear I should say that it's an electric motor that opens and closes the vacuum to different vents in the dash depending on what button is pushed on the dash. The whole vacuum/motor assy is buried in the dash on the passenger side above the footwell. You can see all the different colored vacuum lines coming from it and disapearing up into the dash vents.it's one heck of an octupus.Good luck...

It describes more in depth about what im trying to do.

Can you post a pict of the Vacuum selector motor?
I thought that there was something along those lines in the system and that is what i need to get.

Does anyone have one lying around they would be willing to part with?

were you able to get it fixed?

Did you have to replace the electric vacuum switch, if so did you keep the old one?
