Repainting the interior...

Someone, anyone... Help a girl out!

I'm redoing the interior of my 1984 Firebird SE... It was that horrendous stock kahki colour, and I'm redoing it completely in black...

No, I don't want any other colours. Just black.

It's been repainted, yes black, yes it's pretty...

And, the pieces I've repainted look pretty good... Except, the paint chips easier than... a... Well, you get the pic!

What's the best way to prevent this... Or can I?

Plus, some of the pieces the paint ... Like, bubbles, I guess is the best way. What to do...

My headliner. Anyone redo it?

The carpeting? Anyone do it themselves... I don't want to keep the stock carpet (obviously) and I wanna try it myself before I put out a butt load of $$ for a piece of carpet... Any advice?

And to anyone who replies, you're amazing!

Best way to take care of this is strip all of the spraypaint that's on the panels off and start over. Once the paint's gone, scrub it down with soap and water really well. Get a few cans of black Duplicolor Vinyl and Fabric dye (rattle cans) from your local auto parts store (Autozone, Kragen, Checker, Pep Boys, etc) and spray that on in several light coats. It doesn't scratch anywhere near as easily, doesn't bubble, and looks better.

Of course, the best way to go is to buy black panels from a junkyard or somewhere like that.

Installing new carpeting is fairly easy and straightforward. The dyes don't work well ont he carpet at all, if it's old and worn, the best thing you can do is replace it. Plus, when you spray the dye into the carpet, not only does it come out easily, but it makes the interior smell ike crap.

Good luck.

SEM also has a system that they have that works well... More expensive than most paints, but its been worth it IMHO

I agree with Okfoz, SEM has the best stuff for plastic trim.

I painted a part of the dash of one of my firebirds, it was a medium gray color and the color and finish was perect when I put it back on the car. I showed one of my friends and he could not believe that I had painted it... He looked and looked in disbelief.

That was with SEM

Also make sure you rough it up a little so the paint has something to stick too.

Here's a pic of my headliner I decovered along with the doorpanel.
