'89 GTA 3rd brake light removal

The "housing" THAT WRAPS AROUND THE THIRD BRAKE LIGHT needs a little work. This car has only 9,000 miles and brake light
housing is the only spot to make it perfect.

Looking at the third brake light from the rear there is a small strip at the bottom that goes from one side to the other that is part of the wraparound housing thing that covers everything. It is wavy and the paint has cracked off in several places so I want to either have it painted or touch it up on the car.
Painting the whole thing would look better BUT I don't know what the waraparound cover part attaches to and I don't want to
take everything apart until I know how it is attached seeing as how there are some sort of gaskets in there and none of these parts are available anymore.

So the third brake assembly inside the wraparound housing cover thing is bolted to the wing or spoiler ? The cover wraparound thing is attached to what ? Attached how ? Thanks in advance.

The piece that wraps around the brake light comes out seperatley, but there are 2 10mm bolts that need to come out from the bottom side of the decklid, then the 2 bolts on either end of the spoiler come out and then you can lift up the spoiler and get to the other 2 10mm bolts that hold the brake light assembly in.

Last line I take it you are referring to the wraparound. If not and u actually meant the brake light housing itself. How is the wraparound piece attached to the spolier ? Both pieces are bolted to spoiler ?

If I have to remove the spoiler I am not doing it. One of only a few factory spoiler that looks like new and am simply afraid prying and pushing around on the spoiler could become bad news very quickly. Looks like a might go the touch up route.

yes it is attached to the factory spoiler, you will have to unbolt teh spoiler and lift it iup slightly to removed the last 2 10mm bolts. I had to replace mine before I sent it out for paint a few years back, and that what it took to get the old one off and put teh new one in.
