Aluminum hood
I know that the first Firehawks came with aluminum hoods. I have also heard that some earlier Firebirds (mainly T/As) also had these hoods. Anyone here know if this is true or not? If so any chance someone knows where I mught find one?

Apeiron and jimp2001, where have you guys been for the last 23 years ???
Some 1982 Trans Ams with the power bulge hood and '91/92 Fireharks got an aluminum hood. Its still not determined why some '82 T/As got the aluminum and some got the steel. It probably has more to do with when the car was built and what the factory had on hand at the time.
The aluminum hoods typically have a big "A" stamped on the underside next to the part number but not all did. Its best to take a magnet to check if its steel or aluminum.
Finding an aluminum power bulge hood usually involves a good amount of luck.
Do a Search on Third-gen and you should find some previous threads. Its been covered a few times already.

Does this look like fiberglass to you? Notice the aluminum corrosion where the paint flaked off and the big "A" stamped for "aluminum"

Every few years Gm fiddles around with aluminum hoods.
They think they can get it straight, but they can't. The new breed of aluminum hoods, (Venture vans, Buick Lesabre's and Park Ave."s, Buick Rendezvous.), all have the corrosion around the underside that will creep around to the outside. No recall, But there's a bulletin that will allow us dealers to fix under warranty.
The last generation that I recall, They couldn't get paint to stick to. Olds Toronado's, Caddy's etc...
