I'm in. I finally put my front plate on since I've already had to tickets for not having it. It killed me to put the holes in my grille. So if you can tell us how to make these. Or start selling them. I'm making/getting 2 for both my Iroc's.

Why don't you attach the number plate to the bottom of the bumper on some spring loaded hinges?

Oh wow...

If you ever make more of those for purchase... definitely count me in.

That is probably the coolest custom modification I have ever seen for a 3rd gen.

Ok your in

I have completed the Cad Drawings and sent the file to the laser cutter to get a price on cutting out all of the pieces. I have found a DPDT relay on the internet and I am still trying to find an economical set of limit switches. the ones I am using are Omron salvaged units. New would be too expensive. Anyone who knows where to get inexpensive limit switches drop me a pm

Thanks
Ric

Put me on the waiting-list. If you can put a kit together, i'm in.

Make sure you include some kind of instructions or drawings or something so that us amatures don't hack up our rides too bad in the process.

I got a ticket last year for not having a front plate. The cop was being a total ***, I wasn't even speeding.. he just pulled me over because he could.

yes I thought about aluminium but it would have to be a lot thicker to get the same strength. Stainless might be something that could be offered as an option if I can get some kits together.

There are many options of how to sell the kit.

Should I sell just prints for the do it yourselfer

should I sell just the brackets and you buy your own switches and relays and window motor.

Or the Complete Kit which would include:
full detailed instructions
all brackets and fastners
1 dpdt relay
2 spdt relays
1 power window motor
2 normally on momentary off switches
The full kit is gonna be in the $200 to $250 US area by the time I purchase all of the electronics etc..

At that price is it worth pursuing? I don't know

I would pay that if it was shipped and included detailed directions. It's totally worth the cost of getting pulled over and nailed for 2 or 3 other stupid violations.

i think it would be cheaper for everyone and you'd make more profit if you sold the brackets and everyone else buys the relays, switches, and window motor. Since your selling a product you'd have to use new or remanufactured stuff. If you sold just the brackets and instructions people could use used window motors and such. Personally I do quite a bit with electronics so i have relays laying around. But it's your product therefore your decision. Just trying to help you out. I'll end up buying one regardless or attempt to make my own. Just rather buy something I know works.

I think you should do the brackets and a complete part list of the relays and switches to buy.. part #'s, etc...

And include detailed instructions with it.

I'm sold already!

I'd have to agree with a previous post, sell the brackets with a parts list and assembly/installation instructions. or as downloadable .dxf files for those of us with machining capabilities.
Most of us here are car guys, meaning we probably have enough mechanical ability or know somebody that could do the assembly.
This would reduce the shipping costs, allow a buyer to build it to his own standards and let you off the hook for any warranty.
That said, I'm glad to see a fellow Canuck behind this project. If and when you get this thing figured out, don't think small...
there are tons of other vehicles out there that could benefit from a little front end beutification!
Let me know when the kit is available, I'll send you a cheque the same day.

im ready to buy this product now, i want the "camaro" grill to replace my bowtie one, but i can't see spending good money to drill into such a nice piece and to friggen cover it up with a licence plate. let us know when it is available. are you close to having it hit the market, because the market is def. ready on this side.

maybe you should offer it in stages? all hardware and instructions for X amount of dollers, and X amount for all the electronics included

I am with the others that have said sell just the brackets and have the part numbers for the rest. I have connections on getting the relays for cheap. Way cool guys, this is why I love looking through this site.

Nah, I think he should sell it.

I think he deserves the money for such a cool invention.

If these ever go into production, Count me in!!! I've been pulled over before, because my plates were on the window dash area instead of the bumper. But the Officer let me off the hook because im a Police Explorer.

I think this is what you should do, (Selling the prints won't be very profitable since someone will just post the details on TGO! )

You should have 2 Options to offer, for your new product.

1. RS Package #1. Should Include, Detailed Instructions on how to assemble the brackets (brackets included) and where to cut on the vehicle, and what switches and relays and window motor to purchase. (Items NOT included) .Motor .Switch .Relay. Wires. Welds.Cuts, Ect
This option should have a List Price of $150.00

(Let's Keep it affordable for the regular Third Genner, lets not make this device a dream like the LS1 is to some of us )

Also warning the buyer about the consequences that he might face if a Law Enforcement Official reveals this new device being activated.

2. 1LE Pacakge #2. Should Include, Detailed Instructions on how to assemble the brackets, fasteners, relays, switches, wires, motor, welds, cuts, ect. It also should include all items needed for the gizmo to work properly and appear professionally.
This Option should have a list price of $220.00

Notice the RS and 1LE option :-p

He doesn't need to "warn" anyone of any consequences, people should be smart enough not to try to pull a fast one on a cop in the first place.

All he needs is a disclaimer that says that the device is made to be used at cruise nights and shows where the owner of a vehicle may not want the licence plate showing. The buyer is responsible for knowing the regulations in his/her state. The manufacturer is in no way responsible for the misuse of the device.

Bam, problem solved.

I am still working on this thing just been busy lately. My wife wanted the bathroon redone with ceramic tile and the whole deal. Exams for a course I just finished etc.

I need some advice on how to actually sell this thing. I don't want to impose on this board cause I think it is against the rules to sell stuff in the forums. So how do I let you guys know what it costs where to buy it and all that stuff. Suggestions appreciated.

Ric

I saw this post months ago and started working on a version for my trans am. I've got a linear actuator mounted to a track under the front of the car. The plate comes straight out and then flips up...not as cool as the one in this thread....but at least it's functional. Still working out the small bugs, should be good to go soon...

Ok I don't think I will ever get the ambition to mass produce these things. New job...... a little engine trouble with project ZZD ....... etc. etc.

Anyway I sent the Cad Data for the brackets to Steve Spohn. If you really want one of these maybe Steve will be interested in producing them.

Drop him a line if you are interested.

I made one for my TA. Just mount the plate on a couple of spring loaded piano-style hinges and modify an electric antenna to do the show/hide with a double pole double throw relay and call it done.

I know this is bumping an old thread, but it's just such a d*** cool execution. I've saved this thread ever since I first saw the video. Getting closer to actually having a car cool enough to do this with. I was wondering if anyone ever received any drawings or schematics from Ratchet or Spohn that they can share?
