Camaro guys with moded motors (carb) please come in....

Ok so I have a SBC 384. It has a Victor Jr intake and a holly 750 DP. On top of that there is a 2" air filter. Triangular one from holly. And to punch a broken leg here, I also have 3/4" N20 plate. Do you guys know If there is any way shape or form to get this to fit. It really doens't look like it will.

i am willing to cut out all the bracing metal on the hood around the motor. Even grind the metal skin itself if I have to. My stock hood is just mint and I don't have the $ to spend on the 3" cervini right now. Please let me know what you guys have amnaged to stuff under there. Thanks.

Did you try shutting the hood yet to see if it closes? If not then that will tell you how much of a cowl hood you need.

Are you telling him to run it without an air filter? I wouldnt reccomend that. Do you need to drive the car now or anytime soon? If not Id just wait until you can get a different hood for it or just pick up one from a junkyard and cut a hole in that for now so you dont have to ruin the good one.

Not sure about your locations laws but if you need to use the car then go pick up a old hood cut a hole in it and have your engine sticking out plus you will get better airflow to filter if you have problems with the law tac a 2 inch deflector to put infront of it to "cover it up" a little bit more....

Thanks f355bird.....I was in denial, I love my stock hood. But you are right. There is just no way.

As for all you others, no I do not need to drive it soon. I was just trying to find a way to have it all fit. Oh well. I guess I will start to find a way to order the damn 500 dollar cervini hood. Only great looking cowl IMHO

Have you checked out the Holley Hi-Tec air cleaner--supposed to be used where space is a problem.

yeah. like 250 bucks. Insane. And I hear they don't flow too well. Not to mention thay I would have to relocate my N20 solenoids.

I guess the new hood is really what I need.

There is a guy in the "parts for sale" section selling a cervini cowl. He may be up your way. I just received my new cervini cowl and it was $606.00 after shipping. They are the best IMO though.

Maybe try a really low profile air cleaner, that's what I used before I added a carb spacer and a 3" cowl hood, it fit just right with a coulpe of millimeters to spare.
Here is a coulpe of old pics with the factory hood.

It's the Victor JR. Intake and the air cleaner is a 14" low profile which comes down and hides the carb completely.

I also got a Vic Jr. with a low profile 14"x3" air filter to fit.
Remember, not all low profile air filters are the same.

I used several and got the best clearance with a Blue one from Morosso. It fit with a Victor Jr., holley carb and a 1/2" spacer. Under a stock hood with VERY minimal rubbing.

The one that you would need is the air cleaner on the right, you can see how low it is by the way the bottom raises up (drop Base), and yeah the red air filter means it's a K & N. I just took a look on your website and you have done quite a job...excellent! 1 thing that is you might have to remove the adapter plate fron under the carb for the clearance.

right now there is a throttle braket under there, but it is very thin. Not that it matters, cuz i don't like it and am going to be removing it anyways.

There is no carb adapter, there is a N20 plate under there. I will remove this too, for now. I will put it back when I can afford the hood.

So those filters you showed me are not moroso filters. They are Jegs brand. Didn't you mention that you used a moroso?

Not to be obnoxious, but can you post a part # from jegs or summit just so i am 100% sure. I don't wanna have to buy a third filter after I find out that I screwed up. Thanks for all the help.

later

You would need this dropped base part #KNN-85-3545...

...or this one part #KNN-85-3549, both from summit

or better yet just call or go to a perfomance shop and ask them what air cleaner would fit under the factory hood, also see if they have any used bases that you can try out.
The top part doesn't matter as long it is 14" in diameter and make sure that you filter is only 3' thick, look at the pics that I posted to see how low the air cleaner sits on my car, I don't have that anymore because I got a 2-3' Cowl hood for mine now and I have a carb spacer under and a regular air cleaner base now.
but yeah you will have to remove the N2O plate and maybe bend the throttle bracket down a bit...also dont forget to shave the screws that hold the blisters down a bit because they will hit and dent the top of the air cleaner (Look at mine in the pics above) Try the Moroso like stated from (esc) and you can get it in RED if you want.
That's the best that I can tell you I hope it works for you

allright thanks guys. I will look into the part #'s you stated above. I wish i had performance shops around here. There is 1 and it sux. not to mention it is all F.I. stuff for mustangs.

Anyways. That blue moroso looks like a really large drop on that base. I am thinking about going with this set up.

esc......are you selling those parst still? How about that air filter housing more specifically? I will buy it off you. Let me know. Thanks.
