plastic door glass/ gutting out doors ?
anyone who has gutted third gen doors?
anyone who has made plastic door glass of some kind ?
how and what material ?
which can you put a curve shape into with heat or whatever ?
also a way to pull them up and let them down and be able to keep them up ?
pull straps of some kind ?
tie offs ?
ideas ?
pics ?
i also plan on cutting out most all of the inside door shells and putting on an aluminum tie bar across the very top inside of the doors -if needed
thanks for anything

Unless the car is only going to be used at the track, you're going to hate it. My best friend gutted his doors and installed lexan windows (in a Malibu). He built a 1/4" tube frame around the window with small plates for Dzus fasteners to hold the window in. It looked cool but was a complete nightmare on the street. You couldn't go to a drive-through or talk to people at stoplights or anything. Plus, he was only running low 11's so he was getting laughed at by the 8-second crowd with full doors and roll-up windows.
IIRC, late 60's factory hemi Dart's used some sort of strap system to operate the windows (to eliminate the weight of the window mechanisms). You might check on the internet and see how they worked.

Gutting the doors is a pain in the rear!!! I swear I probibly removed 15 bolts or nuts, and if you dont drill out the rivets tthat hold the window to the bottom guide, it'll take a lot or swearing and aggression to get it out in one piece. If i'm not mistaken, Harwood makes Lexan windows that just replace tthe factory glass. I do know they make a Lexan rear hatch window for about $350. Hop over tto Summit's website, www.summitracing.com and check out what they have.
