My car has cancer :(

I got a new windshield put in today and when they took it out there was rust in the pinc weld and it is spreading to the roof. The guy who put it in said that they did not seal it right and the lower part was not even attaced and they never took off the old glue they just put it ontop of the old stuff. And they did not seal good at the pinchweld which caused it to rust. I had it replaced 6 years ago though my insurance company so i called them today they said they need to pull the old claim and have it inspected by the place that did the work origionaly back in 99 or there inspector check it because the work was done so many years ago it could be from the age of the car. I think this is total BS.

What do you think will happen i will hold my insurance company liable for what has happend since they guarntee the repairs for as long as i own the car.

What can be done about the rust to repair it?

Good luck with the insurance company. I wouldn't hold your breath.

As for repairs, the windshield needs to be removed, and all of the rust needs to be sand blasted away. Once that's done, a skim coat of filler will get the body back to shape, then sand, prep and paint, then reinstall the windshield.

It won't be real cheap. There's a lot of labor involved with that sort of repair. I'd plan on $500-800, plus more if the windshield breaks during removal.

do it yourself and it will cost you about 40+ price of windshield(I did this on my car just a quick fix patch of bondo primer and paint till we pull the cracked windshield out. at that point ill grind it down deeper than i did before and fill it and seal it.)

Doing rust removal with an angle grinder isn't the best way to go. You have to remove too much metal, and you still stand a good chance of having a little bit of rust left that you missed, which will cause the rust to come right back. Sand blasting is a better way.

depends on the type and angle. i had a patch on my front column, I hit it with 60 grit on a palm sander to knock it down then noticed the very center was all the way through so i hit it with the angle grinder till it was a hole the size of a dime and all was shiny silver. the roof was a little tougher since it was a temp speed job basically I just hit the edge as hard as i could to knock it down and seal it till I get the front window out to cut the old metal away(its in the lip and up along the endge on the top right side)

I usually just lightly skim off the rust with the angel grinder and if the metal is any weaker than the stuff around it I will just cut it out. There is no solution to cancer but transplantation.

My insurance company came out today and is going to cut me a check for 1200.00 to get my car fixed. The guy said the car was 500 away from being totaled. I am happy i can get my car fixed now. How can i save costs on paint and prep the rust is just surface rust. I also want a new front frescia and a cowl hood. I mihgt just save this money and put it away for a GOOD paint job and strip all the layers of paint off the car i think there are about 6 coats on it by now.

Wow. I'm shocked and impressed to hear the insurance company backing their past work like that. Who's your insurance company?

If you or a family member are in the military or have been you should be able to get there insurance. I think if you are in law inforcement too you may be able to get it as well.
