Window regulator rivets

I have done a search for this and all I see is that they are 1/4" rivets. In the article on the main page it says something about "peel" rivets. Are these special or something? If they are regular rivets what length are needed? I have been looking at new ones and they seem to have different lengths.

Peel rivets open up like a banana peel when they're installed, instead of just mushrooming like a normal rivet.

Can I replace them with regular rivets then?

Probably, if you've got a tool that can install a 1/4" rivet. I don't have power windows in my thirdgen but when I do a window motor on my other cars I usually just use nuts and bolts instead of messing with rivets.

Ok thanks. I just wondered, I am just going to buy a large rivet gun as they are fairly inexpensive. Actually I need this to install the arm rest bracing onto another door. I have panels from my 88 GTA that I want to put in my 91 GTA and everything uses the same rivets.

yes, but when you do, you may want to put a washer on the back side of the rivit, so the force is spread out over a greater area.

a local glass installer showed me that trick one time... im not sure about our cars, since we have thicker stamped steel inner skins, but on some doors, you need to use washers with regular rivets since they'll put too much stress on one area and loosen over time.

I usually use bolts with neoprene locknuts, that way they'll stay tight without exerting too much pressure on your glass and breaking it, werks great. I know your not working on your glass, but for future reference. Some of them rivots are so big you really need a hydraulic rivet gun exspecially in some tight door frames. If the bolt heads wont hinder anything on your door panels, I'd suggest using bolts, save you money for future toys, also easier to remove .
