broken trunk release
Can anyone tell me how to fix a trunk release switch in a '82 T/A? It's the regular release not the type with a motor.

When you say it's broken what is it doing or not doing? When you push the switch do you hear a click from the hatch solenoid? If you do hear the click from the solenoid is it not releasing? Is the switch itself cracked or broken in some way?
On my '83 my hatch solenoid was clicking it just wasn't releasing the hatch. What I found was the hatch had to be adjusted up.There are adjustment post(I'm sure there's a more proper name name)on the hatch itself that raises/lowers the hatch. This does 2 things;1)it aligns the hatch panel with the bodywork,2)it's also the adjustment for engaging the lock assembly.Mine was to low and the release wasn't working.

Nah, when I press the trunk release button nothing happens. I have to insert the key and do it that way. Is there like a cable that runs from the button to the release in the back that has to replaced or something?

No there's an electric solenoid that releases the latch when you push the button on the console. The problem could be a bad switch, blown fuse(courtesy fuse-20 amp),loose connection or the solenoid itself. Also with an auto trans it has to be in park.Check for voltage at the release switch first(orange lead).
