Soft Seal door weather stripping
Hi all,
Just got my car from paint and pretty happy with it over all. So now Im putting back all the little things. Like molding and weather stripping.
I just install a new pair of door weather stripping, its the soft seal kind, It went on really easy and the fit was perfect, but now when I shut the doors it trys to spring back. Did I do something wrong or the new weather stripping needs time to truly mold to my car???
TIAhttp://www.cardomain.com/ride/2245954

Give it a week in warm weather and they'll work perfectly.

The car was originally "Bright Red" or something similar. I forget what GM called it in 85. When I had the paint mixed I started with 86 GM "Bright Red" and added orange mica to it.

I used the Soff Seal on my 67 Riv a long time ago, it took a while but it eventually became easier to close...
Leave the Doors closed, it will eventually set...

loosen the fuzzies that hold the window out (your door panel IS off the car, right?). That will give you enough room to move the window inward so that you can get an open ended wrench onto the screws.

you MIGHT be able to adjust the window stops, that will let it go a little bit lower...
Remember to re-adjust them after...

Is Soffseal any good? How does it stand to the test of time? I'm in need of replacement weatherstriping (every one) and I want to make sure whatever I get will last.
Is the soffseal a good direct fit replacement?

it looks and feel just like OEM and fits perfect on my Camaro. I bought it online from S & S Classic, the door felts and the door weather stripping cost me about 120.00 for all of it. The door piece was only 55.00

Personally I think the OEM stuff fits better from the get-go, But the Soft-Seal eventually works its way into shape so they both end up the same...
I think its a good product if the OEM stuff is overpriced OR if OEM is no longer availalbe, But for me, if I were to do it again and the difference in price is 20% to 30% more for OEM, I would probably OEM...
Unfortunately sometimes GM will change suppliers when cars get to a certain age, and then your getting stuff that works but not as good as when it was new, so its kind of a crap shoot. I believe GM no longer offers the T-top weatherstrip for example, I bought mine 5 years ago for $160, now its upwards of $300+...

I just put the softseal weather stripping around both my doors. The fit is absolutely HORRIBLE. On both sides I had to trim it to fit. I even had to take out about 1 inch on each side so it would fit or else it seemed like it was too long. When I get the car painted, I'm gonna chuck this stuff and spend the money on OEM.

It's hard to believe it fit that bad. They all come out of the same mold, and mine didn't need any trimming at all. Hell... they're molded ends, how did you trim them at all?
I'm currently looking at the weather stripping for the ttops. Believe it or not, the factory stripping is cheaper than the Soff Seal. I can get both sides for about $195. Granted the Soff Seal will come with the ttop glass stripping also, but I want to stick original.

I did a quick search on the distributor listed above S and S Classic, but did not find their site. I need felts and weatherstripping badly, so if anyone knows the link or any other reputable sites let me know please. Sorry to highjack the thread.
