Not masonite, Tempered hardboard.
Make sure to get the kind that is smooth on both side. It is also water resistant, (but not water proof.) Plus it is only about $10 for a 4'X8' sheet.

Which everybody, including the guys at Home Depot, will errantly call Masonite. If you ask for Masonite, they'll bring you right where you need to be.

Good luck trying to use a staple gun on tempered board/masonite. I made two door panels out of that stuff and it's extremely hard to get staples, etc to puncture through.

Let me know how it turns out and what you used to adhere the material...besides using 3M adhesive spray.

You might be better off purchasing chip board from a Michaels fabrics, etc. I think it's 1/16 so you'll have to stack it and then srpay the 3M adhesive spray to bond them together.

Plexiglass very thin and 100% waterproof

I used epoxy to glue the material to the back

We are using .090" ABS sheets for our 46 hot rod, were going to see how it goes. You can heat it up with the torch and bend and form it to make whatever shape you need.

door panels

my question is if your using these other backer materials how are you using factory type plasitc panel clips. What are you using that is easy to use and still be able to take the door panel off without messing up new fabric?

We are using Velcro. THe door panels is supported by the armrest bracket, speaker and garnish moulding, so the velcro only serves to hold it snug against the metal.

if your using velcro, which is a excellant idea the are you using velcro on the upper piece as well to secure it to the panel? Just wanted to make sure, Ive good door panels but would like to try my hand at making some.

Sorry, to clarify - this is on a 1946 ford hot rod. The windows have a garnish moulding which is a steel peice that screws in all around the window.
