not to be mean, but don't you think 6 inch is kinda overkill. Much more than a 4inch and all you see is your engine.

i would go with a 4 inch cowl but with my set up i am 4 1/2 inches above the fender line with an air cleaner... def not looks but function.... by the way 87tpi350kid you dont have any clearance issues due to the fact that you are running tpi... if that was the case with my set-up i would just run the turbo hood i already have...

i used to have a pic, but not anymore...there is a blue camaro floatin around with a 6 inch hood and dual air cleaners stickin out of the hood, its a full out drag car...it looks fugly, i hate it...i'm not a big fan of the 4 inchers really either...i think you would agree if you saw one..

i would recommend maybe a 2 1/4 cowl, cut a hole, and run a nice chrome scoop (blower style)...eBay Motors: B & M Type Blower Scoop & Air Cleaner Single (item 8050732493 end time Mar-31-06 19:07:40 PST) something just like that...i think that would look killer, and it flows nice with a small cowl..

for some reason i can not bring myself to cut a hole in the hood and run some sort of hilborn scoop or blower hat. i considered running one of those new style bullit scoops but there is no air cleaner option. the car you are speaking about has a bolt on scoop. i want a full glass hood. much cleaner.
here is a pic of my car. what do you think would look the best as far as hood options.

That's not a great picture to really see anything. How tall is the air filter? Does it have a drop base?

I have a 6" cowl on my car and still needed to cut a hole in the top of the cowl. I wouldn't recommend a 6" cowl for the street.

here is a pic of my car with a hole in the stock hood. i am in a similar situation. super vic, 1"spacer, nx plate. now i got to much money in the motor and i'll have to save for a hood , and race season is here! i aint pertty but it works. i have a RA2 hood that fits when i take the spacer off , but i only have 1" above the carb . and it cuts a full 1/2 second of my 1/4 mile time.i am looking at the aero scoops as well. tall cowls are way to common now.

a six inch cowl is going to look stupid. the blower type air cleaner is going to be your best bet as far as looks.

Didnt notice it was a Firebird but anyways here is a pic of a Camaro with a 6" hood.... But you may be able to contact that company and they may be able to make you one.

other options? well, i think a four inch would fit your car, but then again that isnt the highest quality pic either.personally, id just take a fiberglass hood and cut it. im sure youve cut your car in other areas (alot of us have) and if its a fiberglass hood, who cares? not losing an original.

xpndbl3 is using the 4" glasstek lift-off style.

is there a reason your running an airfilter on a race-car? stick with the 4" hood and build a pan to seal the carb to the hood. you will probably end up running faster without the filter though. mine did, went a solid .3 seconds faster without the filter. even still, the car's hood is not flat and even with the fenders all the way across. i'd say you'd be perfectly fine with a 4" hood.

yup 4" glasstek lift off. didn't even need any bondo, just sealed it and painted it. came out way nicer than other fiberglass hoods i've seen. and definately if i can fit my combo under the hood, you should be able to fit yours
