seat belt retraction dead

My front passenger side seat/shoulder belt will not retract and its pulled out to the max.. has been so since I bought the car. Any tips on how I can get it to retract? Believe me I tried pulling on it six ways from sunday in all different directions and from little to extreme force, it is stuck!

Worse case senario if I have to replace it, how do I get the side panel apart without breaking anything? And if I do need a replacement, anyone have a front passenger side shoulder belt in grey?

Thanks!

Mine does that on the passenger side if it's pulled out all the way. What I do is yank it really sharply. Not teribly hard or anything, but QUICK. Like, as if someone was sitting in it and I drove into something kind of quick. Sometimes it takes me a while to get it though.

As for side panel, do you mean the interior panel? You should see screws on the top and along the bottom.

Here is a thing that you can do.

Go to a junk yard and look for preferably your year, or I belive 83 and up seat belts. They had something different for 82 (I could be wrong, and can't remember now). Go to JY and get a seatbelt retractor, or just the whole damn unit. Replace it, it only takes one or two bolts.
Good luck.
