shifter removal
i have a shifter most commonly seen in the recaro trans am. i need to remove the shifter **** to remove and work under the center console i was told that there is a clip in the front of the ****, there isnt. the way the **** pivots suggests that the connection is in the center maybe under the button but i dont want to try too hard and break it... anyone familiar with this? thx

If there's no clip in the front, then it's got to be held on like the early thirdgen camaro shifters.
The button on the top has to come off... it's probably just snapped into place. Once that comes off you should see a C clip holding it down on the shaft. You can use the proper tool, or do like most people do and carefully use a pair of needle nose pliers that fit into the holes at the end, or use a pair of dental pics to carefully spread it and pull it off the shaft.

i dont use force! is there a tool that works best? the previous owners did terrible things to this car!
look at the rivets they used to keep the radio holder in, then used something to try to pry it out, breaking the fastenings on one side of the a/c adjuster, and to make it worst...i put this panasonic in, they had a jensen! a very poor brand!

You'll never get GM stuff apart if you're not willing to smack it with a BFH now and then.
There's no "tool" to remove the button on the shifter. Just poke it, prod it, or pry on it a little bit with a screwdriver.
The shift **** can only be held on so many ways. It's either got a clip that goes in from the front, or a clip holding it onto the shaft under the button.
