Firebird Headlight goes down under its own power but won't go up. Help!

Hi guys, I have a headlight on my 83 firebird that started working only to go down. It will not go up on its own when you turn on the headlights, but if you manually crank it up and then shut the headlights off, it goes all the way down under its own power. I thought if the motor or gears died that it wouldn't work either way. Do I have a relay or wiring problem here or is the motor probably still bad?

Try this

I had a similar problem on my 83. What you might try doing is finding the plug for your headlight motor and unpug it at the harness. Then look inside the connectors for the motor and power plug to the motor and see if the contacts are dirty. On the 83 they didn't use the weather pack connectors. If they are get some electrical contact cleaner and spray them until you have gotten them clean again. Hope that helps fix your problem or at least gets you on the right track to fixing them.

83, it was exactly as you said. The relay for the driver's side had fallen off of the clip that held it upright. It was hanging upside down and water rusted the terminals. Thanks!
