help with cowl hood install
Hey guys,
Got my hands on a nice light 2 1/2" cowl hood for my 82Z. I was sick of the heavy steel hood, the semi working latch mechanism, and sticky hood struts.
I need some advice: I'm removing the latch and doing pins into the front, but I would like to pin all four corners. Is this a good idea? I can use the rad support up front, but what's a good place to pin the back? I don't like the idea of using the stock hinges and needing a prop rod or something of that nature. Anyone done this? Any ideas?!
Thanks!

Some guys are using the fiberglass hood shocks from the 83-84 Z28s. Instead of using the rod, you could probably get these and then still use the stock hinges.
You can't use regular shocks or it will stress the hood and start to crack it.

If your new hood can use the latch it's a good idea to put them. I've heard of people accidentally forgetting to put the pins in hoods before and driving with them that way. Usually the hood ends up buckling and cracking the windshield and denting the roof. Also nice to have in case some idiot removes them in the parking lot without you knowing.

I've installed them on a mustang before. Personally I think there a good way to scratch the paint if you're not careful. Not to mention we used the Spectre brand ones, and they've started to rust in a few months.
My OEM shocks are dead, so I also plan on going to the fiberglass hood support lifts.
