New to the board

Hey guys Im new to the board and would like to hear your thoughts on my project. First off I have an 83' Z28. The body is in great condition no rust or dents of any kind. I got this car from a relative who past away and actually have never met before. When I got the car I was clueless as to what I actually had, I figured it was the standard 305 carburated HO motor. Well I tore into the motor and it was actually bored out to a 355 with forged pistons and a four bolt main. It is also a 5sp that I think at one time was automatic. Now ive been searching around in the forums about other camaros with the camaro logo stiched up and down the front and back seats. Im not saying they are rare or anything but ive taken them to a couple of shops and they say they have never seen them before and cant get any material to duplicate them. Is it worth it to keep searching or go another route. Also with the rear end I have a hunch that it is not stock. It is a 10 bolt rear end but would like to know a little more about that. Ive been told it could be an Auburn Posi and probably has 3:73 gears in it. This car was basically droped in my lap and have no records of any kind about it. Any thoughts would be awesome to hear. I dont know many people in my area with f-bodys.

Thanks, Dan

I think as far as your seats are concerned it sounds like you have is what's affectionatly refferd to as the "camaro camaro camaro" interrior, which isnt all that rare, by chance are the door panels the same way ?

Unfortunately no, that would be cool if they were. Im going to try and get some pics of the car up this weekend. The car is torn down now. Im getting the engine compartment ready for paint in a few weeks to get the motor back in. Im excited to see how much power this motor puts out. Probably shouldnt get my hopes up though.

You say it was a 305 bored to a 350, but I believe are 305s (I know the TBIs) can not be bored to a 350 even, so you may have a 350 bored to a 355, unless it is possibly a 305 boered and stroked. But don't quote me on that, not sure.

One way to tell about the 5 speed is to do a vin search, or check the RPOs. Also decoding the RPOs, will tell which rear end you may have or had.

But sounds like a nice project, and everything. Get some pictures up, thinking everyone here is alway eager to see another 3rd gen. And welcome to the boards.

To find out about the rear, do what i just did to find out I had a 10 bolt 3.73 posi, jack the car up... put it in neutral mark a postion on the wheel and on the driveshaft, spin the driveshaft and count how many times that spins in comparison to the wheel, this will give you a good estimate on what rear.

If it used to be an 83 Z with the HO motor they had the T5 tranny as well as the 3.73 but i dont think that that rear was posi unless it used to be a non HO motor and had an T5, then in that case the 3.73 rears were posi... i just got that from https://www.thirdgen.org/tech-data i use that daily...
Have fun with the car

I did run the numbers on the block a while back. Turns out it is a GM crate motor. And yes it was a 350 bored to a 355. Im going to try and run the numbers on the rear end and tranny this weak.
