I think I'm going to have to sell my firebird after completing only the engine rebuild. I need to get it painted though to get any kind of money for it. Any suggestions on where to get a cheap paint job? The Maaco here seemed to me like they didnt have the cheapie 200 dollar job anymore. I can do most of the prep work here, but dont want to spend 600 bucks on paint and such to have to paint it myself. What would a paint job cost on average if I prepped it and didnt use the best paint, but a middle of the road paint? Anyone in Florida on here that would be willing to paint it? Thanks.

See "poor man's paint job" thread below. Don't get much cheaper than that!!!
Good Luck with the sale.
Good Luck with the sale.Yea, I read that. Not a big fan of rolling paint on it...even to save money :-p
I just cant justify a $1000 paint job on a car that Ill have trouble selling for more than $3500... which Ive got in the motor there already. Just thought Id throw it out there. I may have to sell it as is needing a paint job and hope someone sees the potential.

Well you march right back down to maaco and demand a ****ty paint job for cheap. j/k
Ask around some your area and see if anyone knows anybody that does it on the side. If you dont have maaco, thats probably the next cheapest.

my paint alone was 900 with other materials, and that's the cheaper quality paint....not counting labor, i don't understand how people expect a show quality 10k paintjob for $300. go to maaco, you get what you pay for on the cheap.

Take exhaust tips off.
Do any prep work you can and make sure everything is clear with them, hopefully they will think twice about half-assing the job.

I never said I wanted a show paint job. I just want it to look decent. I can get good quality paint for 600 bucks, 900 is a bit extreme for paint that isnt at least decent quality. Im going to look into Maaco again in person and see what they have to say. Otherwise Ill just have to break down and do it myself. Im just not feeling spending 2 weeks prepping and painting my car just to sell it for less than the paint is worth...

I would sell it in the ready to paint condition. As a buyer I would perfer that to a cheap cover up paint job. . Just my .02

i agree with 'rex orr' but if you are going to paint it, spray paint works pretty good, wal-marts sells primer & paint for like $1. a can, if you do a good job sanding & stuff & take your time painting, it'll come out great....
