Whats it worth

Wasnt fully sure where to put this, but I need some advice. I have a friend looking to by a thirdgen because he loves mine after driving it. He found one, price seems a tad high to me, but it has alot of options mine doesnt have. I'm going to list what I know, if you have more questions, ask and I will do my best to answer.

General info:
1992 Hardtop RS, 140k on body, fairly new..but rock chipped paint.
gray inside, high level trim, no major stains, no rips, perfect dash pad.
cargo roll up mounts, missing roll up (no biggie)
power windows, work
power locks, work
tilt, cruise, ac
305, 35k on NEW block(all good hoses, belts, fresh plug wires, kept up)
auto (no word on if rebuilt)
16" rims, 1 new tire, 3 used

Good stuff:
basically new block
appears to have been taken care of
tinted windows
appears to have new radiator
says to have new front struts
appears to have new master cyl

Bad stuff:
few minor simple nit picky things wrong inside
blower motor/ac is not kicking on(said it worked other day, maybe fuse, maybe switch???)
drivers door needs new bushings
needs rear shocks
REAR HATCH WILL NOT OPEN AT ALL!!! (MAJOR WORRY TO ME)

Guy is asking 4600. IMO, its a tad high, says he will dicker with price due to rear hatch.

Without seeing it in person, I wouldn't pay more than $2500 for it. You'll drop at least $500 into it with fixing the door, blower motor, shocks, and rear hatch. That hatch is a problem, because '92 pull-down units are a real pain to find.

I almost agree but I would offer him less. These cars are nice to have but costly to maintain and restore unless you are related to a person who owns a JY.

I told him atleast 100 or more on the hatch. Ac unit could be anything from .10 to $70.

I'll let him know, thanks.

FWIW - I bought a '92 bird 2 years ago in Denver w/ new paint, T-tops, and power everything for $2,000. Unless there are very few 3rd gens in AR, $4600 is way too high.

try www.kbb.com (Kelly blue book site). If your friend really likes the car you can use the prices from this site as a negotiating start point.

8492, it is a bit cleaner then most around here. I think the guys asking more because of the basically new engine.

Site shows 2080 in fair, 2520 good, 2855 perfect

Just more food for thought - a 305 that needed a rebuild at 105k (140k-35k) was either not taken care of or ridden hard and put away wet. Also, try finding out where it was rebuilt - out here you're lucky to get a 36k warranty from a rebuild shop.

I'm in Little Rock, AR and I bought a 92 Camaro RS, 305, auto, 190k, t-tops, decent paint and interior for $2500 in Feb. 2005.

I just put in a new GM crate motor and rebuilt trans. Paint and interior is next years project.

Your guy's price seems a bit high unless he has receipts showing who did the rebuild, etc.

Just food for thought.

BTW, if anyone on the board is from AR or the Little Rock area, drop me a line. I'd love to meet up with some local third gen fans.

Like everyone is stating, price is a little high, there are cars for sale on here everyday for half that price. I picked up mine for $850 the way she sits, 600 miles on the rebuilt 71-350, new paint, clutch, hood, supension, lowered, etc. All I have really done is replaced the entire interior to black basically for free by parting third gen cars and selling parts on e-bay or here. Keep looking and you will find the right car for way less.

ya 4600 for 3rd gen is too high, these cars are not hard to find at all, either here or ebay will give you a better deal and youll more than likely be able to drive home, not knocking on my 3rd gens but first off 305 are a dime a dozen, and if it isnt any kind of car like H.O. or z/28 (still wouldnt pay that much for those)def. not worth, but good luck in either choice
