Weatherstripping Installation
Hey guys,
I just got my weather stripping in for my 84 Trans Am. Have any of you installed this stuff before? Mine has T-tops and they don't leak right now but I'm sort of afraid to go digging on the old weather stripping.
Can any of you let me know if there are any special ways to go about doing this or any pitfalls I should be aware of or do I just start pulling until the old stuff is off?
I don't want to screw this up. lol

Well, no replies means no one has anything to say so it looks like I"ll just start pulling the old stuff off and see what happens.

Whoah, hold on! If you do a search of the forums, you will find info on this.
I don't have the info in front of me, but I recall reading on an old post on here that you have to install an asphalt-like caulking underneath the rubber seals or water will get into the channel under the rubber and then make its way into the car.
I can look for the post tomorrow, but right now I am trying to finish a bunch of schoolwork.

I did do some searching but all I seemed to come up with was people wondering why certain after market seals didn't match up right. /shrug I'll take another look though.

Well, this isn't the exact article I was thinking of, but here is a link to a detailed article that is from the Tech Articles section on the homepage here.

Thanks. I'm heading to bed but I'll definitely check this out more tomorrow to see if there is anything that I missed.

I just got done putting all new weather stripping in my 86 Z w/ T-Tops. I used OER brand, and just followed there instructions. I had to replace my center bar, and bead blast all of my channels as they were pretty rusty. Then I used POR-15 on them before I installed my weather strip. I also put a bunch of high temp silicone under my center bar before I replaced it. I ran the garden hose on it for 15 min., and had no leaks. I had to adjust my side windows a little, but when out on the road there is no wind noise. I also put in a ABS headliner just in case someday it decides to leak. Good luck, and just make sure you follow the instructions, and you should be fine.
