Best way to tie the battery down?
I am running an Optima battery in my Formula and it just doesn't fit right with the stock battery hold down block.
Anyone have pictures of how they secured thiers via aftermarket/homemade tie downs.
Need to get it done before June 18th for the next auto-x event since they don't like the bungee cord method. bungee works at the drag strip but not auto-x.

go buy 3/8" threaded rod, drill two holes and put them on the outer portions of the battery then fab out of 1/8" or thinner aluminum a hold down plate. add two wingnuts on the top and you're done. few washers and lock nuts are needed as well

Optima actually makes a replacement for the stock holddown that fits their batteries. Check the place you bought it from and see if they have any. Or you could give Optima a call. I bet they can send you one.
I found this on Optima's website. Third picture down:

thanks for the Optima info. I had seen that before, but I couldn't find anything relating to the hold downs on Optimas site when I was looking there a few days ago.
I'll see if Advance can get it for me since a friend of mine is a store manager so I can get a discount, otherwise I will use the method posted by xpndbl3.

I'd try to get a new hold down block. I have an optima in my Z and that thing does not move. Maybe yours is a little out of wack,
I know with mine it gets tight and doesn't wiggle or anything. Even got through inspection at the track with it. If not, going old school is your next option.
Good luck.

The problem I am having is that the battery is slighty larger than the pocket in the battery tray so it doesn't really come in contact with the welded on hold down.
This is not the correct battery for my car.
I had it originally in my 86 Trans Am mounted in a battery box in the spare tire well.
