Replace Hood Insulation?

I recently removed the insulation under the hood of my 85 t/a because its was chewed up from a mouse that was living there for a while, and also because I thought it would look better, and possibly keep the engine a little cooler. Someone told me that the hood paint will start to fade if I don't replace it. Anyone have any input for me?? Thanks.

It doesnt do a thing to your paint. It keeps the noise down more then the heat. Your hood will get hot no matter what. I on my car now have no hood insulation as well as my gf's RS. no problems. Any of my past cars i have removed it also.

The insulation pad was installed mainly as a sound deadener, not for any other reason. Once it starts to decay it becomes rather flammable, so you woulkd probably be better off without it anyway. A mouse set himself up a nest under my intake plenum with the insulation material last winter, which burnt up later on. I haven't noticed any extra fading on my hood (still original paint) since I removed it in January.

Yeah, I had a mouse build a nest in the same spot. I was setting up mouse traps for weeks with cheese and peanut butter on it. He kept taking the bait without setting off the trap. Finally I wrapped the cheese with dental floss and got him. He was fat as hell!

LOL @ mousetrap

yeah I took my insulation off when my serpentine
belt got ripped and chewed up part of my insulator,
so I pilled them all off.

i thought of the same, that maybe it'll kill my paint faster..
but no problem since then my 91 original paint hasnt gone worse or anything.
