Has anybody added radar or power ports to roof console?

I just bought an overhead console for my T-Top. Before I install it, I want to add a couple power ports and add my V1 detector and my BearTracker. Has anyone done any of this?

Adding options to overhead console...

The place I think best to install two power ports is where the odometer is.

I just picked up an '88 IROC-Z and plan on moving the overhead console from the '86 into it.

I'll mount the Cobra onto the windshield just left of the console and wire directly into a switched power source so it comes on with ignition.

If you go with outlets in the overhead, I suggest you too run up a switched power source for convenience.

Re: Switched Power Source....

I sure hadn't thought about that- It's a really good idea. I'm trying to figure out how to add two swing down/out mounts where one would at least pop out from that leather 'pouch' looking thing, yet having both detection items being easily movable from one vehicle to another. Nitro

For my windwhield mount the detector is held by the clip into it's front and the little pigtail drops down from the header to plug into the detector.

Using this method all that is required for swapping to another vehicle is having the mount & pigtail in both vehicles.

Of course, in the case of my $65 Cobras, I simply mount one unit into the Vette and one into the IROC. But that's a little impractical for a big $$ detector.

BTW, does your overhead have that little flashlight? That is like the slickest thing and it throws a pretty bright beam for its size.

Flashlight...

Mine overhead is still in the shipping phase, so I didn't know enough last week when the 'offer' came up to ask if it's included. I may need the spot for the Uniden BearTracker 10 unit, but one way or another I'll have to carry a flashlight of some sort. I'm planning on going down to my local wrecking yard and seeing if there's some sort of storage device that I can attatch just under the dash on the passenger side and under that big center vent, even if it's just a sunglass storage bin. I'm also thinking up how to come up with a removable shallow tray for the top of the center console...

Im using mine for some leds, switches, and my alarms motion detector where the flashlight is supposed to go, theres damn near zero room for all the wires you have to run..
I went with a 12pin connector on one side and its sitting above the mirror because there was nowhere to tuck it in

power outlets could be a pain for obvious reasons, but why would you want to run a power cord from your ceiling anyways

Power Outlets....

I'm running several items between vehicles. First, the Valentine 1 radar. 2nd is the Uniden Beartracker which warns me when a CHP has his radio transponder on in close vacinity. Third is a G-Tech for measuring horsepower/torque, quarter mile figures, and g-force cornering times. I don't want to hardwire as I run them all between 4 vehicles and I don't like to leave stuff like that in a car. Insurance usually dosn't cover those type of items should they be stolen.
I'm also going to drop in a small safe where I can lock all that stuff up when I'm parked elsewhere. There's nothing like running across the Nevada desert or down Interstate 5 pushing 140 between traffic and knowing I've put the odds in my favor. I don't believe in speeding in town, but when I hit the open highway.....!
