Pushing Headlight release button but **** won't come out

I have a 1991 Z28 in which I was trying to get to the Speedometer, so I tried to get the headlight switch **** off. I reached up from underneath and pressed a springloaded little button like the manual says, and tried to pull the **** out, but it wouldn't come out. I applied some force but I didn't want to break it. How hard do you need to pull? Am I pressing the right release button? Its on the underside of the light switch assembly. I can feel the **** shaft moving through the light switch assembly, but it doesn't want to come out. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

Wiggle it and pull harder, sometimes they are PITA to get out, sometimes they just fall out.

I've taken mine out countless times and for the most part its been easy, this last time I took it out though it didnt want to budge....but after wiggling it and pulling really hard it came out. The fun part is getting the headlights turned back off without letting getting the **** stuck back in, hehe

Thanks for the replies. I'll try again and pull harder. With the age of the car, I'm a little hesitant to pull on anything too hard, especially after some pieces have come apart in my hands before.

Thanks
