OUT OF THE 4 DIFFERNT PAINT OPTIONS WUT ONE DID U USE AND HOW LONG DID IT LAST AND COST?

 

from what i have heard they dont do a very good job. some people have had the highest option done and they seemed to come out ok.

Mine turned out pretty good, but some better prep work could have been done - I can find some small sanding scratchs where minor bodywork was done.

trust me I didnt do my own prep, I wasnt specific and I didnt get estimates

I paid 1800 for a paint job that looks good but has lots of flaws that are because of prep and plastic crap bumpers

 

Got mine done a year ago. I knew the owner so I got a pretty decent deal, he said he was tired of painting Honda *****-mobiles all day.

I got mine completely sanded with extra prep work to compensate for the D.A.R.E. decals that were on it, got body work done on the sails and a few other things.

Green forest pearl, clearcoat with extra options. $1500 total for all of the work done, but I got a HUGE discount. I'd say it would normally run around $225-2500 to get everything I got done.

It still looks like it was done a week ago after a year. I was totally impressed with their work and will be taking my other cars in to get done when the time comes. But I knew the owner, so that has to be taken into account.

I'd assume just like all chains, it depends on the management and paint techs. Take a look around and "case" the joint to see if there's any obvious problems with the process. People have told me that they've left fresh painted cars in the lot to dry (if that's the case, obviously turn and run!). All-in-all, MAACO did astonishing work for the price and I'd recommend them to anyone as long as you're wary and make what you want completely clear to them.

 

Mine has clear coat peeling off all over the place after less than one year. Looked decent for a while, but that was after I wet sanded, and buffed it myself. You get what you pay for!!!

 

I work across the street from work and though it looks good from a distance, up close the prep work is not all that good. I went to school and done bodywork for a while and you just learn what to lok for. If you want a cheap paint job to sell the car on then go that way otherwise look for a older shop thats been around for yrs.

i went to them it was garage mine paint eventually started to crack cause they didnt sand off enough of the old paint

 

When I bought my car is had a fresh maaco paint job, don't know what level the person before me paid for, but it lasted a few months and it started to fade, you could see the paint spray lines, paint is chipping, after 2 years, some of the car looks okay, some doesn't look so good.

 

If you would like I will get pictures of all the defects in my car.

 

I have mine color change painted at Maaco for $500 about 1.5 years ago and it still looks as good as the day it was painted. I did all the prep myself, sanded down the original paint everywhere to primer, and removed all the trim, mirrors, spoiler, lights, etc..

I cannot find one single flaw anywhere. Zero runs, zero overspray. They masked perfectly. There is no sign of the original color anywhere. It honestly looks like a $2000 paint job up close.

It makes me wish I did better body work as I didn't get all the dings out.

I also took a fiberglass spoiler there for my TTA. I got it back and the paint was thin in a couple spots so I took it back to them and it now looks just like the original paint.

This Maaco is in Costa Mesa, CA. Highly recommended.

 

Wherever you get your car painted, one needs to think of it like icing a cake. Its only going to be as good as whats underneath. If you prep the car, using 240 grit paper dry, and 400 grit wet the car prior to bringing it to Maaco, you can be surprised at how well it will look. Maaco painters paint a car every 22 minutes, so as long as its not their first day, they get good at it fast. The prep work is truly the key to a good Maaco paint job. If you can see a scratch or a dent when the car is in primer, it will only be multiplied when paint is applied. And once you have the the car ready, wash it. Every little nook and cranny, and dry it off. Never fails that when the paint gun hits a crevice you didnt clean out, here comes the glob right onto the paint.

Make sure your car is the last one painted on a given day, and ask them to "let it dry in the booth overnight, and dont use the lamps".
On a reguler paint job, they use infared lights which force the drying of the paint. Letting it dry in the booth, lets the enamel flow, and the resulting paint job will have less orange peel than one they "lamped".

Lastly, see if you can get the car singled staged not BaseCoat/ClearCoat. The clear is just a film, that if one is not careful, buffing and wetsanding will remove the clear. The resulting surface is the basecoat color, which is a dull finish, and you will NEVER get it to shine. If you use a single stage paint, the color is thru the paint top to bottom...Buff all day, and you are still buffing color.

i got the best one you can get (4yr warranty) base/clear i did all the prep work myself (the key part of getting it to look good) i got it in 04 and drove the car for damn near 2 years with no problems what so ever, if i could do it again id get them to put an extra coat or 2 of clear. It cost me 1450 for everything (jams, trunk, underhood, install of hood, alignment of fenders, installation of lights) plus prime and paint. it was worth every bit of it...heres a pic of it..2004 chrysler intense blue pearl is the color.

dont be all dissing maaco. I got my car doen there a few months and its still holding up very well. I got the 2nd to highest option and its flawless cept my hood. You have to be very specific on what you want asnd how you want it done. Also shop around your area of the maacos. I didnt like 2 of them but then i saw a camaro at a different one. Man was it nice. JUst be picky man. My car is still flawless. also what are you doing with your car. Im still in hs so i wanst gona get a 4000 grand paint job.

My car was Maaco'ed before I bought it, I estimate about a year ago. The seller was not specific about when it was painted. There are spots in corners, like the edge of the hood, and under the top of the hatch that has peeled a little back to the original color (white) and some spots were'nt taped all the way. There was also no prep work done to the car before the paint, and I'm guessing the previous owner probably only bought the cheapo Maaco job. All that being said, it does look good from a distance!

 

My dad sells cars, and he says macco is a more mask and spray app. Sort of a Grand Theft Auto pay and spray deal

 

mine was there for about 3 weeks, but they were booked up pretty good at the time, and anothering thing to remember, look the car over good and make sure there's no discrepencies before you leave there was a small spot where there was a good amount of paint in the area between the door and the front fender, i opened the door and the paint was so thick that it peeled off, i had them re adjust the fender and respray it and i picked it up 2 days later

It comes down to the individual Maaco or Earl Scheib and also how specific you are. If you tell them to paint it and that's it, they will do a horrible job. But I think if you spend the time to explain everything to them and make sure they understand everything you want done and you get one of their top jobs, then it should be decent enough

 

noooo maaco sucks....I just bought a 82 Z28 and the guy had it painted at maaco about a year ago....my front ground effect is completely paintless...guy said every time he washed the z and hit the front ground effect with the hose at the car wash paint came off...so no I wouldn't recommend macco they do sh**** work

Never done prep work before. If there is a guide somewhere on here as to how to do it, I must have missed it. But almost everything i've read doesn't go into enough detail to actually help. If there isn't one, should be in the Tech Articles section or atleast a sticky.

 

So is everyone saying they won't sand it good before they paint? I was going to get mine repainted there, I just want it the same exact color, everyone here is making me have second thoughts, but I can't afford anything expensive and know nothing about prep workl.

 

you pretty much get what you pay for, he probably got the $200 econo spray job and it was probably a single stage acrylic enamal with no flex agent in it.

Anyone here ever used MAACO in Tennessee? If so did you have any trouble out of them? How does your car look now & how long has it been since it has been painted? My car still needs ALOT of body & prep work, but will eventually need paint. I don't have thousands of $$ to spend though.

 

There was a few Maacos up in Ohio, and they did ok, for the price, it was about as good as factory I guess. Good for a street car, but def not gonna win you a best paint at a good car show. Down in florida they seem to do a better job overall, but like was said, it just depends where you go. I'd go look at the cars they have at the time and see what you think.

 

Only get a MACCO paint job if you are selling the car the next week. They suck big time.

 

You get what you pay for; for me, when I get to the point where it's time to paint, I am going somewhere and pay the 3-4k. Nice car man. Right now, mine is the same color but when finished, it will be that Hummer yellow and black trim. I just bought a chevy 350 crate from GM Performance Parts - GM Crate Engines - GM Crate Motors. Got the vortec manifold as well. I am now looking for the correct trottle body application. BTW, looking for severalparts that have been discontinued by GM so if you know of any links, let me know.

 

i was going to get a macco job when i was ready for some color on my car, couldnt justify getting it done by a shop that i never heard anything about, quality wise. I ended going to a local auto body who has a very good reputation, it wasn't cheap buy the quality of the prep, and paint was great. instead of the "mask and spray" method of macco, the ground efx bumpers weather stripping ect. were all removed, fixed if needbe, what rust they found was fixed everything was painted fitted and reassembled perfectly. i was really happy with the work. that was 2 years ago now and it still looks like it just came back from the shop.
