trunk jammed in up position
My buddy has a 1987 Trans Am. Recently, his trunk started getting jammed in the up position. He's replaced the relay, but the problem still persists. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Bill

If you can fiddle with the striker-sensing switch and get it to work, then that switch is going bad. The switch is activated by the hatch hook and is located just in front of the latch when you're looking at the pull-down unit from the rear of the car. Also check that you have power at the red/white stripe wire that plugs into the blue wire of the pull-down unit. It should be constant 12v. The fuse for the pull-down motor on Firebirds is an inline fuse that is next to the fuse block. On Camaro it is the #3 slot, third column from the left, top row. While you've got the hatch surround trim off check that the clear plastic housing that the motor slips into (called the motor housing) is in good shape and free of cracks. It is common for OEM ones to break especially where the 3 screws attach it to the frame. I sell reinforced ones and all teh other parts you may need to repair your hatch pull-down unit. I also wrote a Tech Article on this web site for repairing these.
