new gm weather stripping... leaks continue (long story)
exactly what the title says....... i bought brand new GM weather stripping for my 89 firebird formula w/ t-tops. i bought the 2 big pieces that go around the t-top and around the window on both sides of the car. i also bought the center molding piece that goes on the roof. all of this costed 420 bucks on hawksthirdgen. anyway, i brought the car to a nearby body shop to get everyhing installed, the guy charged me 200 to install it all. i get the car back, throw a garden hose on it right away, and it leaked worse than when i brought it in....... i was FURIOUS, until i realized that in the front corner on the passenger side, the weatherstripping was NOT in its groove.... i popped it in, leak tested it again, and nothing seemed to be comming through.
the other day when i rained a LOT here in NY long island, i got MASSIVE leaks on both sides of the car through the t-tops, and in th BACK of the car through the roof onto my back seats....... what could be causing this??? everything is installed correctly (so i think)

There is a GM bulletin for this. Basically you have to seal the crap out of the center bar and parts of the weatherstrip when installing them. PM you email, and I'll send you a pdf of the bulletin. If they were installed with some sealer, you'll probably need to get new weatherstrips as they will get damaged when removing them. If you pay someone to do this again, I would verify they know what the f*#$ they're doing. It's a common problem, and will not leak if done correctly by a competent individual.
