Ya I'll have to see once I get it all the plastics in, and see about the color. One thing I noticed about the light grey is it shows dirt pretty easily. I had it sitting on the hood while the glue dried and now have a few spots that are a little dirty.

Oh,
Did you start on your swap?

not yet...i wish. I'm still removing dynamat from the floor and hatch area first, then have some other bodywork to do before I get to the dash. Your thread has helped me out a lot with it tho....

New Updates!

Made a bunch of progress in the past week.

First, I ordered the upper hinge repair kit for my drivers door. For anyone wondering, YES get them. My door has been flopping around for years, and these fixed all of that and it closes finally!!

Next I reinstalled all the newly painted plastics and headliner. I went ahead and used the SEM paint on my headliner and rear speaker covers. I like how this looks much better now. Everything matches and really looks like it came this color.

So here are some pics!

The graphite colored plastics.

And the headliner after changing the color.

Update:

In the past month, I got the door panels I wanted.
They were the original light grey, but that just didn't match my color scheme. So I used the SEM paint on these too, now they match great!

Old color on the left, new on the right.

I also ordered the outer sweeps, mine were in terrible shape. The drivers door you could see all the way into it.

These will keep the water out!!

Wanted to see how the door panels look installed. I think they turned out pretty good.

Lock Switch works too.

Now I know you might be thinking 'why did he go through all the trouble of upgrading his doors to power, but bought manual panels'

Well one of my later projects will be to fiberglass in some speaker pods within that carpet area. So you won't even see that hole for the window crank.

Re: Well Starting the swap of a 92 dash into a 84

Hey cdoyle,

How's the SEM holding up on your interior panels? I dyed the interior of my Camaro using the four step process of SEM Soap, Plastic/Leather Prep, Sand-free Adhesion Promoter, and then Color Coat. However, if I scratched the panel hard enough it would reveal the original color. Have you had any problems with your panels getting scratched? I'm thinking about applying the Low Luster Clearcoat to try and harden the finish a little bit more.

If you hadn't had any problems with scratches could you please send me the model numbers of the SEM products you were using? I seem to remember that there was a different type of Plastic Prep that can be used for different types of plastic. Maybe I just have the wrong stuff?

Thanks,
Darren

I haven't had any problems yet, but I'm also not really driving the car either so really haven't had a chance to put any scratches in it. Not encouraging to hear that you've been having problems. Sounds like you took more precautions with the prep then I did too. I didn't use the soap stuff, I only used the sand free.

I hope it holds up!

Re: Well Starting the swap of a 92 dash into a 84

Thanks for the reply. Don't get me wrong, the finish is durable... I was just expecting a little bit more out of a product like SEM. I called their techline and the only thing that the guy suggested was to make sure I was using a gray 3M scuff pad and not a rag when I was applying the SEM Soap.

It seems like the finish holds up a lot better on the harder plastic like what is used for the door sills. It's a lot tougher to scratch those panels compared with the other "softer" interior panels. Anyways, I was just checking to see if you had any problems so far. Good luck with everything!

Re: Well Starting the swap of a 92 dash into a 84

Well, I should start a new thread since I'm moving to the exterior but I think it might be nice for anyone following along to have it all in 1 thread.

I've moved to the exterior and trying to get the 91/92 style GFX installed.
Grabbed a rear bumper over the weekend and the rear GFX. I had the door skirts and door GFX. So I decided to start test fitting everything.

Since my car had no GFX originally, I found that I had to weld my own bracket under the doors. Wasn't too bad, once I saw what the factory bracket looked liked (sorry no pics of mine, I forgot to take some).

Swapping the rear bumper was nothing, took about 10 minutes. The rear GFX was pretty easy too, just needed to drill a couple holes for the mounting studs.

I still need to put the door GFX on, just ran out of time, but so far I'm liking how things are going.

Can't wait to get everything done, get it painted, new wheels etc!!

That body looks super straight for an '84, should turn out really nice when everything is painted. I agree with you there about changing out those wheels. No offense, but it looks like you stole them off of a Ford Probe!

That's coming along REALLY nice. I wish I had the time / patience to do all the work you have. The interior on mine is in pretty good shape, but could use some work. My brother just sold his 84 Rustmaro.... pretty sad actually as it was in the family since we both were in highschool too many years ago. I would have loved to have him fix his up like you are yours. Hopefully the people that bought it will restore it back to a Camaro.... but sadly I think it will just be a driver till it falls apart for them.

Re: Well Starting the swap of a 92 dash into a 84

Thanks everyone,
I'm really happy with how everything is turning out so far. The body on the car is pretty good overall, there is one dent on the drivers side by the gas filler.

Oh this story ticks me off. It was Christmas eve about 4 years ago, and I was chosen to get the pie at costco. So I had the day off, got there right when they opened. I wanted to get in and out, of there. So I run in grab the pie, and get right in line. Walking out the door in maybe 10 minutes!!

As I'm walking toward the car, I could see something didn't look right. As I got closer, I realized that someone backing out of a stall, or pulling in hit the car. Put a football size dent into it.

I'm not sure how I'm going to fix that yet. I was going to try and see if I could push it out from the inside, but there is no way to get to that piece from the inside.

Other then that, there the car is in great shape.

Oh the wheels I'm thinking of getting are these (minus the corvette logo)

Re: Well Starting the swap of a 92 dash into a 84

Today went and got the newer style front bumper and put it on. I still need to get the 91/92 AERO front ground effects. But overall I really like this bumper better then the older style. I like the turn signals better, going to convert those to LED later on.

Re: Well Starting the swap of a 92 dash into a 84

I have some diagrams in this zip.
http://chris.caraudiocentral.net/ima...maro/diagrams/

An 89 C-100 might be a little different from the one I used for my 84. If you can find the one for your year, that will really make this easier.

Re: Well Starting the swap of a 92 dash into a 84

For those who have been following the progress of this car, I've moved to the exterior.

Right now, installing the 91/92 GFX. Darn I wish this car was an 85, if it was I wouldn't have had to replace the front bumper.

Here is a thread I started on this project
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/body...d-effects.html

basically right now I'm sanding the bumpers, and GFX. Still looking for a front chin if anyone has one, let me know.

Here are some pics of where I'm at now.

I have the front bumper pretty much all sanded down now, so hopefully this weekend I can get the rear bumper and the GFX on the drivers side done.

You can see more on my cardomain page too, if you stop by. Rate me up Please!!
