Replacing the Hood latch in a Firebird

I'm a newbie at doing this, but I figured worst case scenario I drive it slowly 1 mile up the street to the garage and ask them to fix it Anyway, I'm trying to replace the hood latch on my 91 Formula. Is there a trick to popping the white plastic part of the cable out of it's seating in the old latch? It looks like it just "snaps" in there but it won't budge. Is it just a matter of good old brute force? Sorry for the lack of term knowledge Thanks!

I remember replacing mine with a 46 piece craftmans tool set at a junkyard, so it can't be that bad.

Yeah, I got it all out except for that one piece. I just wanted to be sure it was OK to force it or if I was missing something holding it in someplace (not that I could see anything). A screwdriver it is
