Removing Exterior Mirrors
How do you remove the mirror from the outside remote rear view mirrors? I have a 1989 GTA.
I can hear a rattle on my driver’s side rear view mirror. I think either the screws holding the mounting mechanism are loose or possibly the mirror is coming unglued from the mounting mechanism.
I know this mirror is glued to the mounting mechanism but I do not want to start prying the mirror off the mounting mechanism. Is there some trick to removing the mirror to either tighten up the screws or re-glue the mirror?
I know there is a proper automotive glue from my local auto parts store for re-gluing.

not sure what you mean, but to take the whole mirror off pop off the door panel and roll the window all the way down i think is what i did. than there are 2 nuts holding on the mirror. you may have to move this other bracket that im not sure what its for to get to the left bolt though. hope that helps

Move the miror to the extreme travel and look behind it. You'll see a cross-shaped metal piece on the motor that snaps into a channel on the plastic backing plate of the mirror. Carefully pry it free of the backign plate. Now you'll be able to see the pot-metal frame that the motor attaches to. That pot-metal frame is screwed to the inside of the mirror bucket.
Older style power mirrors had a hidden screw behind the mirror glass attaching it to the motor. You'd have to break the mirror glass to remove the mirror from the motor, then attach a new mirror afterward.

Just pulled a set of power mirrors I got off a parts car and took them fully apart for painting...On one of them I was actually able to slide a screwdriver under it and pry it off without breaking it. The other wasnt so lucky.
