I don’t know if this is the right area. I work for a industrial and marine distributor....we just got this product in called EVAPO-RUST....anyone ever heard of it??

From what little test we have run the stuff works great...today we took a flywheel that had been sitting outside at a junk yard and was all rusted up...we let it soak in the EVAPO-RUST for a few hour took and took it and washed it off and i would say that 90% of it was gone?

So as i am watching this i am just thinking about all the parts i could use this on?

They say that 1/2 gallon of this solution will remove up to 1/2 pound of rust...that allot of rust.

Has anyone ever seen or used this product before? or know anything about it?

Haven't heard of that one before. Check the label to see what the active ingredient is, and at what percentage. I am guessing it is phosphoric acid? There are other phosphoric-based solutions that will also dissolve rust if you let a part soak for a while.

i see on their site they compare it muriatic acid which is very aggressive, another chemical you can use that is a lot tamer is oxalic acid

i found a site through google one time on derusting a gas tank, fill it with water, oxalic acid, an iron bar and put a battery charger on the steel bar on one end and tank on the other - after awhile all the rust will end up on the iron bar

i'm sure the stuff does what it says, i'm also sure you can buy something at a hardware store without a brand name and do the same thing.

Bull - I followed their link to their MSDS sheet and they aren't giving up any ingredient info

there are no acids in it...and its water soluable....when your done you can just dump it done the drain....And as far as we can find there isnt anything out there like thi stuff......I took my hand and dipped them right in today and doesnt even bother them at all...I think we are going to sell it for $23 a gallon or around there and that will remove upto a half a pound of rust...

When i get a chance i am going to try it out on some stuff off my friend fathers 1932 pick-up and see...

Here is a picture of a flywheel then we set in to saok for a couple of hours...The entire thing was rust when we start...they part of the flywheel that still has rust on it was not put into the solution. so that you could see the difference....

I read about Evapo-rust in Motor trend, and it worked excellent on a piece they showed us. They wanted to get a tank and drop a chassis in it lol, just to see how the rust would react.

that would be something I would be intrested to see...if hey chassis was mainly surface rust it would be braufiful...if its rust that is through or really caked on i would be curious to seee...my guess is it would need 2 or 3 soaking in the solution for the best results.....

Wow, if you were closer I'd probably buy a gallon and run some tests myself.

Supposedly autozone either carries it or is going to carry it....Thats someplace you can check....

It was developed for the military and It's been out on the market for about a year now. I use it all the time. How do you think I got my car in such great shape.

So you have had good results with it..Thats what I like to hear..the product is just now making its way up to the northeast...

Autozone does carry Evapo-rust in the Peoria, IL area for $8.95 a quart.
Works pretty good at removing the rust from all the screw, bolts, clips, etc that I'm taking off during the front fascia removal on my bird.
