Tilt Lever Cover Removal

HI all, this is my first post - so before I start, let me say that this site is great! The information available here is tremendous!

Now to my newbie question.

I need to replace the washer lever on the turn signal (just the black plastic part). I have a replacement part, and the lever just pulls right out, but I can't get to the wire connection in the column.

I did a search here and someone posted that the small tilt lever cover just "pops right off", and the wire is assessable under there. I've tried to pop it off gently, but it's not coming off. I'm afraid to really pry on it for fear of breaking the darn thing.

Am I missing something? Any advice, such as where to pry on it?

It's a 1986 Camaro.

James

Any help here would be appreciated. Even just an explanation of where the tabs (?) are that hold the cover on would be a great help.

Thanks in advance.

Did you look in a shop manual for the breakdown of the part?

No, but I have a GM manual on order. All I have right now is a Haynes manual, and I didn't find any reference to the small cover around the tilt lever.
