92 to 85-90 Body Style Swap.

How difficult would it be to swap my Firebird's 92 style curvy GFX to the boxier styled 85-90 style. I know I'll have to swap the front and rear bumper covers and the door / rocker panel graphics and rear quarters and fender pieces, but how difficult will this be? Or will it bolt right on?

Good question.. I've been thinking about doing that to my 92 also. Changing the rear bumper is a no brainer, remove rocker panel screws holding on the 'dirt catcher', then.......?

Firebirds got better, Camaro's got worse... IMO.

85-90 were the best Camaro years, but those 85-90 birds are HIDEOUS, sorry guys. I like the 91-92 Camaro's and birds a lot though, I just dont like the spoilers for the 91-92 camaros.

BLASPHEMY!!! lol i love em all, i kinda like the more squared look myself though, why have a boxy car with everything else more squared, and then try to put a rounded bumper on it..doesnt flow well IMO

You'll obviously need the front and rear bumpers. You'll want to get the 85-90 fenders if you want the fender vents. You might want to get 85-90 fenders (vents or no vents) too. Get all the "supporting" stuff for the side ground effects that are right below the doors. Those supporting pieces are actually welded on and are located inside of the lower door ground efx.

I think that 87-90 GTAs and 91-92 camaros are the best looking. Good luck with your swap, and send pics!

previous owner did this to my 92 covertible trans am. Made it into a gta clone car. I like the 92 ground effects, as I also own a 92 camaro. If you want to swap your 92 parts for the older box style I'm game. Pics are here let me know http://s32.photobucket.com/albums/d1...0pic/?start=40

Sorry your wrong. with the changes that chevy did to the camaro in 90 made the 91 and 92 camaro the best years for the 3rd gen camaro. Maybe I'm partial cause my 1st 3rd gen was a 92.

By the way my plans for my 92 trans am is to change it back to a correct ground effect package, just need front and rear bumper covers, and front fender ground effect. I have the rockets , doors, and rear quarter panels peices. Also Have vented trans am vents, and a ram air stlye 2 hood. I think the 4in cowl hood is a little to much I would like to change it out to the 2in hood, But for the price I paid for that hood I'm not bitching.

My only problem with the 91-92 Camaros is the spoiler and I prefer the Iroc wheels, everything else looks killer.

I like the spoiler, Not a fine of the high raise that thing like like Sh#t on the cars. I have factory chrome 92 rims or the 25th anniversary rims.

it wont all bolt right on as i did this swap on my girlfreinds car
the doors will need to be drilled and the quarter panels needed drilled and also the fenders need drilled

and you have to use the front and rear bumper braces as the 91-92 are different

its a bit of work but worth it if you prefer the older look
ya it needs painted still but you get the point

I KNOW ITS BEEN A WHILE,JUST WANTED 2 SHARE A FEW PICS

in the first pic,the black circle is where a hole used to be 4 the 89 gfx&below that is the new holes 4 the 91-92 holes.in pic 2 91-92 gfx piece mounted you can see where there would be a problem, the 1 89 hole would be very visible.&in pic 3 this is the 89 front fender with holes drilled for both 85-90 &91-92 gfx.the upper holes are the 85-90&the lower ones 91-92

So, you're going from 85-90 gfx to 91-92 gfx? The way you're post read, I thought you were doing the opposite.

I think it's gonna look good. Is that a 4th gen style spoiler?

What color is the finished product going to be, and what size are those rims?

Also, did you need to change the headlights for this swap?

Thanks and good luck!
Bill

I agree,I love the 91-92 gfx. so much i converted my 89 to the 91-92 style as much of a pain it has been, i think it will be well worth the effort.

WTF is wrong??? i have had nothing to do with this thread....but that kinda seems a lil harsh dont you think. Not only that...but i must agree the other way....i think the '85-90 are way cool. ITS A MATTER OF PURE OPINION. but the newer one are way to round to me.....i can only picture girls driving them...but maybe thats because every highschool girl and her dog has had one of those damn things around here.....just my 2 cents.
