Yes, but you'll probably get away with it.

just about everything is illegal, in canada you have to have mirrors, a hood and working lights. but when i got my car painted i had to drive it home from the guys bodyshop (a 10mi journey) without side mirrors or lights. i got real lucky.

it might depend what state your in, i used to do it all the time here in ohio, you should be ok, if u get pulled over for it just say your motor was over heating or somthing like that.

Car: 90 R/S camaro 3.1L stock,
I drove an ole 79 nova in H/S (graduated in 85)for 2 yrs without hood.I went to what was Penny High and is now East Htfd high.Only probs i ever had was got told that it was unsafe and technichaly therefore not legal. The same cop then wrote me a warning for driveing with an open non breather covered 4 barrel carb. Was funny as heck because he was cool but his partner was a *****.(hence the write up)He even got in it and reved it up with encouragement ofcorse.LOL.OHHHHH to be young again.

I asked my dad this question, and he stated that it is illegal because if anything happens to the engine with the hood off, there is potential for oil to spray the windshield making a dangerous situation.

My buddy drove his mustang around for 3 or moths without a hood in NC, only time he got problems was when it rainedthe sparkplus holes in the heads would fill with water and he would get funny miss fires.
