Gap between front of hood and bumper...why?
Gap between front of hood and bumper...why?
I've noticed this on several cars, and mine's no exception. On some 3rd-gen Camaros, the front bumper (i.e. the section with the tri-bar chevrolet emblem) is perfectly flush with the leading edge of the hood; there's no gap.
But on my car, I have a huge gap between my hood and my front bumper. Like I said, I've seen cars both ways, with and without gaps, but why is this? Am I missing something? Here's a picture of my car.

The easiest explanation for this is that maybe I'm missing some shims or something that raise the bumper up to the level of the hood? But strangely enough, the rest of the bumper mounts up perfectly; the bumper edges are level with both fenders. Anbody have any ideas?

Well, its a potentially easy....really easy fix, or annoying as all hell. There are two rubber like stoppers under the hood, kinda near the headlights i think. You can either unscrew them, to raise it a bit, or screw them in farther, to lower it. Whenever i was under the hood of my car i would kinda fiddle with these and my hood would usually look weird after, took my a while to realize what the hell was going on.
The hood lines line up really well with the fenders, so turning those stoppers is gonna throw all of that off. The bumper also lines up well with the fenders on the edges, so I really think the bumper's gonna have to come up in that middle area in order to look right.

There's an adjustment where the hood latch and I believe on the headlight support bar. Just pop the hood and have a look. You might need to take that plastic filler panel out if your car still has one to look below the hood latch area. Loosen the bolts/nuts up and lift the front of the nose then tighten up everything. I've done it in mine and closed the gap up.

I have a similar problem. My hood lines up perfectly with the outer edges of the bumper, but the hood sits too far forward (or the bumper sits too far back) in the center. Is there an adjustment for this too?

if that hood is reproduction that thatll do it, reproductions are never as good as factory (otherwise the factory wouldnt sell the dies that make them). if its stock then it could be your bumper just settling. you can fix it by putting spacers in the screws that hold it down at the top there. there are 6 screws that you can unscrew, stick some washers under it, bolt em back up.
try er' and see what happens

If it's been hit and repaired without replacing the front bumper support (the one that has the latch) then it may be bent slightly down. Mine was like that for awhile after I had the front end fixed. I replaced that support, and then brought it even and tight with a couple of shims.
Thanks for all the replies! I'll probably try shimming the bumper, but man it's got a long way to go to close up that gap! My car actually has been hit before, but the latch piece is off of a junkyard car that wasn't hit in the front. Hopefully the shims will do the trick.

Like someone else here said "adjust the hood latch". You will be amazed. If the hood is properly positioned front/back and side/side, then the hood latch should bring it right down for you. Took me a while to figure out how that would close the front gap, but it does.
