Trans Am Fender mystery? HELP?

Hello,
I recently bought an '82 Trans Am & noticed a difference on front, bottom part of each fender. The passenger side fender front bottom area just below the parking light looks to have a factory trim piece that's actually attached to the fender itself & doesn't look like anything you can take off or remove from the fender...it's kind of just "built-in." The driver's side fender looks like it's missing this same trim piece & has 2 (maybe 3) holes where a trim piece was once supposed to go?
Which side is original & which was replaced? Or could it have been both sides were the same & the passenger's side trim was just molded to the fender to look like all 1 piece when some body work may have been done? Please help?

does your car have ground effects? mayb the fender is meant for ground effects and your car does not come with them. take some pics to help us understand better.

82 & 83 cars, as well as the 84's w/o Ground Effects had small flare like pieces in front of the wheels, similar to the flares of the late 70's T/A's

if you look closely enough, you will see that the little fender flare is actually a separate piece from the fender. it's urethane and it's one large piece bolted under the nose. the bolt is located on the inside of the fender along the bottom lip, removing the wheel well trim will allow you access to the bolt

what you are seeing are the 1982 stone deflectors, look here:

http://www.wraithinnovations.com/knight.html

these are reproductions, but look just like the originals, they were factory pieces on 1982 T/A's and are held on the inside of the fender with nuts.

I added the rear pieces to my car but not the front.

My passenger fender looks exactly like yours Formula350, then the drivers side looks just like yours but without that last shaped flare & has holes there? Almost as if that piece was shaved out? I think the driver's side fender came from a car with fender trim & the passenger side is original never having anykind of trim?

88karrv6,
My driver's side fender probably did come with that stone deflector you posted...I just hate to put that on because I actually like the look of the passenger side fender better (like formula350's pic). Guess it just comes down to my decision...with or without...just stinks because it probably means changing one of the fender to accomodate whichever design. By the way, where did you get that cool pic of KITT w/ flames around it?

I liked the look of the fenders without the front deflectors too, I did add the ones ahead of the rear wheels though.

actually, It should be easy to take off your P/S deflector and make them match, just unbolt it and have the holes filled. if it looks solid, somone may have just bondoed it to make it look smooth, that's nothing that you can't undo, since the part is actually plastic.

my avatar is one I found on the web, I can't remember where. I think on one of the knight rider boards

Your car looks really nice, shiny paint! It will make a nice Knight conversion. have you decided how far you want to go with it? exterior or full on replica.

I wish my car were that far along, but I still need to finish the motor and get it painted. Good luck with the build up!

omg another KR freak

damn... hide the birds..

i wont be reinstalling the front deflectors on my 82 t/a, i dont like them, although there is a possible chance i may cut off the entire part of them that sits like a shelf under the front clip, and jut retain the outer painted part for the nose part of the fender

not sure yet, wont know til its that time, meanwhile i have my deflectors stored away up here

good luck
