lambo door question

I've been thinking about this very extensively lately, and id like some feedback. Anyways, what i was thinking is this, it may or may not be in this exact order, but try to follow me:

cutting off the door hinges

weld them on sideways, to the angle i want the door to open

going to have to implement some sort of shock, i was thinking possibly rear hatch shocks or similar, therefore the door will hold in this extended position. possibly even adapting 2 of them into the picture, 1 on the top half of the "hinge location center?" and the other on the bottom

probably going to fabricate some sort of rotating hinge assembly for the shock, so the door wont close on it.

i see that the kits you normally buy, push the door outwards somewhat for im guessing clearance. but i dont see clearance of being an issue other than the door/shock hinge assembly

What does everyone think? Let me know please, i'd like to know if im getting in above my head or if this is actually a possible scenario. Thanks alot.

well i dunno about this shock because its gonna get in your way whichever way you mount it, and if you mount it out of your way, itll have no mechanical advantage and have to support the full weight of the door and then some. and you cant have 2 hinges that go upward unless one extends and one pivots.

now im not certian on this but im sure that the reason the doors on the camaros open outward first is because of the latch mechanism, it has to go outwards first, then once clear of the pin, it can be raised. so unless you modify a door latch mechanism to engage downward at an angle, then we cant go any further.

i like lambo doors on non-lambo cars but on a 3rd gen the doors are so heavy that i would think they would wear out the bushings and hinges of the production aftermarket lambo door kit already offered to us. unless they have already caught up to this and have created a hinge that can pivot and support 200lbs of weight.

Hmm.. i don't think i completely understand what you're trying to say... sorry, im not that experienced with door hinges / locations and such, i just came up with the idea because i think the lambo doors look nice, plus im broke.

well get a job and save up because to design what you have will cost more time and money than just buying the hinge kit itself.

I did the whole lambo door hinge thing and it is REALLY tough. I have pics of it on my CD site. If the door goes up, you can only have one hinge. You can't have a lower hinge, that part of the door needs to leave the car now to move up. I installed my hinges, GT Factory hinges, ($850 in a GP), and they only kinda worked. I did all the cutting and welding myself and I got them to work right and all. Oh and before I go on.... You 100% HAVE to move the door out before you go up, cuz 1. the stiker like said before, but that is not as important. But 2, the front upper corner wants to dig into your A-pillar. The only wat for it to go up is if the door opens enough to go around it. This would have to be a 5 or 6 thousand $ job to redesign that whole area of the car and have it even attempt to look stock. Listen to me carefully....

I have done this, and have bought the best hinge kit out there, with 2 shocks and all, the doors open practically by themselves and it is not worth it. The door when shut is only held in 2 places, the striker and the hinge that swings and pivots, this makes the door unstable and if you grab the top and bottom, you can wiggle it when it is fully seated. Maybe with FAR FAR, more pressure from the shocks and FAR FAR more bracing and custom metal work you could get it to all fit under the stock fender, (this was one of my biggest issues), then maybe it could work.

Take it from me, I got a $3000 paint job and ended up coughing up another $500 for my doors to be changed back to stock. Stay stock and stay happy, you will wanna shoot worself in the foot if you ever try this.

But if you are still crazy enough to try, I have a hinge kit for sale

I did this to a truck at work 2001 caddy truck. Worse thing u can do to a car. I will never do another one. I can not wait till this fad is over with. Maybe when a door falls on someone and kills them.
