GTA's unique body style?

Ok, so I am finally given the time to work with my '88 firebird a bit, and was concerned about making it quicker. I've already got many parts lined up such as an LT1 and some other modifications that should help out a bit, but one of my main concerns is the body. After searching A LOT, I've found some pretty cheap parts *i guess they are cheap* that are GTAs and are fiberglass as well, vs nice heavy steel parts. A whole set is about $1K, and to me, that seems like a pretty good deal, or if anyone knows where I can find better deals, feel free to inform me

In any case, I've heard from many people that the GTA has a unique body that really creates a great downforce capable of speeds of 300+ before becoming lifted, and that this is some sort of stock-body record. Can anyone confirm this? I'm still concerned which body will be the best to go with, and if that's the case, then I'll know what to look for.

Thanks!

i could be very wrong here, BUT i think the only difference between a GTA body and T/A body is the hood and spoiler. (not couting suspension, brakes etc...)
for example, my car is an '88 TA. I recently bought a new GTA hood and GTA spoiler. cant tell the difference at all between my car and a real GTA
(once again, as far as LOOKS go, not suspension and all that other good stuff.)

EDIT: looking around at a bunch of different trans ams, it seems that there are a ton with the 4 vent hood and wrap around spoiler. I thought those where only on GTA's but i guess i was wrong. Are there any differences between the GTA and TA body wise?

haha, there are so many different variations that I really don't know. IT seems like the GTAs use the two hood louvers. I never paid too much attention to the spoilers though..

I'll have to get back w/ you on that
