door window whoes
I'm having issues with my door windows. Especially on the passenger side. they have a tendency to catch outside of the molding of the weatherstrip in the body.. even when they catch, and "enter" the molding(weatherstrip) properly, it is still a gap at the rear part of the window. (inwards, the window does not go far enough in).
i have tried adjusting the door window with just about every nut and bolt i have been able to find inside the door, but the problem persists. The window pane itself is not very well supported while in the closed position.. there is some play.
i have two theories..
firstly, the door itself doesn't line up entirely well, the door is aligned horizontally, but the rear line of the door does still not follow the line of the body 100%.. it's about 1/8 difference from top to bottom, havent really been able to figure out what causes this. Is there any known model differences that can cause this? i have an 85 z28. Would a firebird door cause such a gap for instance? the door has probably been replaced at some point, as the ground effects doesn't line up 100% either. (sticks too far out)
i should have had some pictures for you guys, but right now i am on one side of the planet, and the car is on the other.
Either the entire door is wrong, or it is just a matter of worn guides somewhere.. where are the guides that wear out on these window lifts placed? (i have electric lifts). they are probably due for a replacement at any rate.

If your door is misaligned, I'd get that part fixed before I attempted anything else on the window - since the window is a part of the door.
For the door, maybe new hinge pin repair kit? These doors are heavy, and they wear the hinge pins over time from the weight - look inside at the hinges while opening/closing the door - see the wheel that spins while door in motion? Is it smooth rolling, or does it wobble? Wobble means worn. Mine is a 1992 and both door are about worn out - your 1985 would be worse if never tended to before now. Repair kits are easily available, from simple pin kits from any auto store, to entire hinge repair/replace kits from like TDS (a sponsor - look to right for his ad).

Open the door about half-way and pick up on it form the bottom. If there is much play, the hinge pin bushings are worn out. I adjust a door using a jack stand on the back of the door and several pieces of wood different thicknesses to ge the height where I need it. hen again the bolts are a pain to get too.

well, the hinge pins are not the problem in this case, as i said, the door is aligned horizontally with the body. i am well aware of how fun these hinges are on these vehicles, did a hinge job on my previous '86 z28.
it actually looks more like the door is a poor fit.. anyone know if there are any doors from different models that "almost fit" or anything like that, as there seems to be something odd with this one, but i cannot put my finger on it. i will grab some pictures when i get back home to Norway.

Tweaked frame? Botched door reskin? Misaligned rear quarter skin? Sagging hinges and the ground effects were adjusted to hide the gap?
Plenty of places to start looking
