can you reattach the hatch glass defroster leads to the glass?

how can you re attach the defroster grid wire leads to the hatch glass when they come off

is there a thread or article or anything on this or is it even possible without special tools etc ?

need to know so i can decide what hatch to put on the t/a, as i have a coupel with defrosters in them laying around and i dont like the clear non grid replacement one thats on it now, im going to trash can it, it looks bad with just a clear clean glass and no lines in it, looks wrong, i dont like it,
but all the defroster grid hatches i have have one or the other of the defroster grid wires missing, so hmm...

kind of a dilemma

would be nice to have a functional grid if im going to make the swap to a grid one,

you know..

thanks for anything

must be nice, can't find a non grid without defrost to save my life that's clean and in great shape. i have 5 with though.

you could attempt to solder it, that's about your best bet. you can get them for so cheap though that i'd probably just get a new glass piece.

IIRC defroster repair kits are available to repair the grids and connection.

http://www.frostfighter.com/ff_products.htm

I have soldered the connector back on, not very easy and not very pretty

I'm just the opposite. I plan on swapping my 87 non-defroster hatch, for the defroster one on my 89....one of these days.

Nothing wrong with my 87 one, I just want the defroster.

The Tab Repair Kit should reattach the spade terminals to the glass.

I got a kit for 8 bucks at my local auto parts store. it has a small vial of glue to re-attach the tab to the glass as well as conductive paint to fix broken grid lines on the glass. used it about 3 years ago on my eclipse and it is still working great for the guy I sold the car to. real simple to do. mix the glue, spread on the tab, hold with pressure for about 30 secs, then tape on with duct tape over night. carefully peel the tape off and Voila! it is fixed.

it wont be the same kit as the one for repairing grid lines

im confused about it, wierd.

i take it with a grain of salt, well several..

overrated

clear ones are dirt common, and really fugly, and are totally useless in cooler and cold climates where there is ice and snow often, such as here in IL

good luck

Google "cw2400". Is a conductive epoxy for this situation. Use it all the time @ work to re-attach tabs on convertibles.

Why?
1st. When youre doing a resto-mod like mine you need to go with all new stuff, cause lets face it, its a brand new shell/bodypanels. I want a new, 0 scratch glass.

2nd. I live in Canada, I can only image what the shipping cost would be for a backglass that weights about 100lbs and is big as ****.

the one on my car is actually a replacement one a few years old because the original grid one got busted out by vandals, its been parked virtually the whole time after it was replaced, it was replaced when it was still out in wyoming and then not long after that the original 305 engine blew up, heh

also, i have been informed on this site that new clear ones were discontinued

thanks

wow...
i thought i wasnt gonna get my t/a deck plate off the replacement clear glass that was on the car

it was glued on there damned good

damn..

thanks
