I believe that it’s urethane (someone correct me if I’m wrong), it’s a piece of body cladding (fits along the bottom of the quarter on my ’87 TA) that is cracked in the front where the pocket in the back that holds the strip that the mounting studs are attached to ends.

What kind of repair will hold this stuff together? How about something that I can get in small quantities since this is the only damaged plastic that I see on the whole car/project.

I have had great sucess with the 2 part epoxy they sell at home depot made for plastic. It take a while to dry, like overnight, but it works great and is cheap like 7$ for a tube.

I repaired my front bumper which is made of the same material that you need to fix with the 2 part epoxy stuff. The corner of the bumper was torn and that stuff holds pretty strong after dried

ya Ive used some 2 part plastic weld repair kits. works great. Ive used my dremal and put a v channel on the front and rear of the piece. and scuffed em up with 80grit.

mix up the 2parts smear some inbetween both pieces. Then press them together. Then I fill the front and rear. prob a inch over the area needed. Let setup/cure and da as normal.

Anyone have a brand name or a specific item name for what they used and liked? It seems like I’ve had about 50/50 luck with epoxy and plastic, some works great and some is totally worthless… and the story always seems to be that urethane is one of the harder ones right behind polyethylene which nothing sticks to.

When I was poking around the hardware store I ran across a superglue for “hard to glue plastics” that I was tempted to try.

the superglue stuff is the stuff i used, worked great just make sure to skuff it up real good, and it takes overnight to really harden.

The stuff i used was a 2 part epoxy , made for bonding plastic, and it was made by the super glue company. It was in the paint department at homedepot. It was not superglue, it was a plastic epoxy made by the superglue company.

thanks for clearing that up... the stuff that I mentioned actually comes in a single small tube that looks just like superglue.

no prob, i realizied that after reading your reply, just rember it says cures in like 20 min, but i would not mess with it till the next day. it dosent bond really well till all the way cured.

The stuff I always used is a 2 part plastic weld from autozone,etc..

Ive done a few lower gfx.

and I just did my wifes 03 cavalier bumper. Riped a 2ft section like ripping a piece of paper in 1/2. not worth payin the deductable to fix it. So I just used this stuff. Been holding up last summer and all winter this year. So I dont see it having any problems.

Next time in in the store I'll see which one it was.

I've never used it for a bumper. It would depend on how large the crack is. The packets are pretty small.
