1991 gta lug nuts
1991 gta lug nuts
Hi,
i have a 79 trans am that i just put 1991 gta wheels on. My problem is with the lug nuts. The wheels that i had on the car had tapered lug nuts on them. The surface of the gta wheels are flat unlike the tapered lug nuts. I put the tapered lug nuts on my car but just hand tightened them and set the car down on the wheels without driving the car.
Should i buy flat faced lugs or just use the tapered ones?
Where can i get these lug nuts? would any store have them?
Did i hurt the wheels by setting them down on the tapered lug nuts?
The wheels came with decent tires and slight curb rash for 150 did i get ripped off or is that a decent deal?

I think you did fine on the price...I just sold a set with good sides but junk tires for 425 Cdn. You should post a pic of the rim....the GTA wheels should take a standard GM lug with a rounded mounting seat...but they are metric thread, which probably won't fit your '79. I can send you a pic of what the stock ones look like if you want.

The lugs on a late 3rd gen are M12 x 1.5 but that is irrelevant to the 2nd gen. All of my GTA wheels that I have are all tapered seat as are the stock lug nuts. So either you have a strange year on the wheel or they are not GTA wheels.I have a 91 now and my old car was an 88, both with tapered seat holes.
If they are in fact flat then I would get new lug nuts rather than run the tapered nuts on the flat surface

Re: 1991 gta lug nuts
upon looking for lug nuts,it should be well-matched locks..typically they are nuts with one rounded or conical end for steel or aluminum style wheels...you can try using a bolt screwing into a tapped hole rather than a nut..my dad had asked me to looked for aftermarket ones, and found chevrolet pickup lug nuts that will fit to his '01 blz extrm 2W. perhaps you could find one if you wish to changed the older part.
